In case you don't read the international forum - there is a firmware upgrade:

https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/286069-leica-cltl2-and-tl-firmware-update-with-improvements-new-features-and-bug-fixes/

See my note about the link to the download - it's incorrect in that forum post.

I've installed it and played with it briefly - so far, no issues. I'm curious whether or not they will publish the bugs that were fixed - I could fairly regularly reproduce the off coloring on the LCD preview, and thus far, it appears it may be fixed.

Do the top 2 wheel buttons now lock into place? i.e you can now set them to aperture and shutterspeed, and pressing the buttons will have no effect?

I found that I accidentally pressing those buttons a lot, which disorientated me somewhat...

Yes - holding down the left button will lock the wheels and top buttons - it displays a little lock icon on the screen to indicate the controls are locked. A long press on the left button will unlock them.

There is a PDF with the firmware download that explains the new features - I am unsure if they will publish all of the bug fixes that were addressed

The big win in the update is the ability to swap the role of the two wheels independently in each mode (PASM) so you can get all the aperture mods on the right if you want, or do other things.  I'm not a big fan of ECO mode or of the total back button freeze-up.  And I would like to see back button focus, but I don't think there are enough buttons left to do that, unless the only way to move the focus point before you use, say the back center button in the 4-way unit to select AF is by touch, and that is hard to do with the camera at your eye.

If a CL is being sold in June by B&H, should that be already up to date in terms of the soft ware of firmware recent update needs?

I wouldn't count on it. It might happen, but there's a lot of work involved in updating a configured release package, and there's plenty of product in the distribution pipeline that will not be updated unless a dealer does it for customers on a one-at-a-time basis.

I received my CL from B&H on Wednesday, June 27, my camera is still 1.0 Firmware.

I see, that does not sound good...  it is very difficult to do the update then?   how do you know it is a current firmware or not?

You look in the menu under Camera Information.  If it is not 2.0 it is not the current firmware.

The installation process is pretty straightforward.  The installation instructions are on the same Leica webpage as the firmware itself.  See links above and in other threads.

I am buying a CL this week and I guarantee it will not be updated. I would guess that unless it is manufactured in the past week, it will need to be updated. Updating is very easy, just read the instruction or get help for this forum.

Another question... :

If you get a new CL without the newest firmware, and do not update it... what would be the bad effect or consequence in the application of this CL?

None whatsoever.  Firmware 2.0 only contains very minor changes.

In the future new firmware might contain more substantial improvements.  It might also provide support for new lenses.  Without upgrading you would not be able to shoot those new lenses then.  Up till that happens you could happily shoot version 1.0 of the firmware though if you wanted.

Say if there is a Firmware 3.0 in the future, without upgrading to 2.0, can you go from 1.0 to 3.0 update?
