It won't be CL it will be TL something. The mount is the L mount S/L = FF, T/L = APSc

I think it's the "L" that's telling. L mount camera. TL might be for no EVF and CL might be for "with EVF". I don't think they'll call it the TL3 because it's really a much different beast with a built in EVF. Possibly with a different body shape and control system as well. My money is on "CL"

We'll all know in a fortnight or so. :)

....... according to the rumours ...

still no idea where this fits into the current M/Q/TL/SL set up without taking sales from them.

the only hole in the Leica portfolio is the one left by the X-Vario ...... that's the one I would go for .....

... but there again Leica's business logic is often at variance with the rest of the world .....

I said it before: the Panasonic GX8 is of good enough quality to qualify as a Leica; image quality, EVF and build.

Give it a decent Leica interface, axe half the buttons and dials, give it a red-dot facelift and you have a Leica reentry into the 4/3rds scene. There is  a Leica lens system to go with it. It even is a rangefinder look-alike.

Who knows? I would buy it.

I could believe this - but not named CL (that implies L mount) nor with "Das Wesentliche" as a marketing puff on the invitation.

Edit. OK, I see that 'CL' is just a rumoured name. My second point is still true, unless Leica intends to use 'Das Wesentliche' as a code for a makeover of third party cameras (fewer buttons, new menus etc) - which I don't believe.

At some stage Leica has to bite the bullet and introduce a model that does take sales from the M, unless it's determined to remain a niche player. The SL has already done so. It's not a question of if, but when. A L-mount, FF, M-sized body would also compete with the SL without some obvious differentiation (e.g. higher res sensor in the SL2?). I suspect it's these considerations that keep Leica's strategic planners busy.

All I know is it’s L mount and supposedly has crazy AF (let’s see). And I was told to keep my T lenses. On your second point, I fully agree. Leica presents a repackaged Panasonic at “Das Wesenliche” event and people will be storming out the door. But an APS-C camera with Panasonic technology is a different thing. There is still a massive market to go after for the mirror-less players in the DSLR space but it’s not happening. One doesn’t see sports photographers carrying Sony cameras. It’s Nikon and Canon still. Sony is attacking it with the A9 and the newly announced 400mm super-telephoto E-mount lens. APS-C may be the way Leica decides to go. It would give them a below $3,000 solution with snappy AF and lenses with a range of up to 420mm.

I hardly know the correct answer, but is it not the sales of lenses that would make Leica more profit, moreso than the sales of camera bodies?  For every camera body sale there must be multiple lenses which can/will be sold. I would think a 'more attractive' body with preferred performance and user interface on the consumer level (pricing) would be the desired way to go.

Could be. If so, and if they can develop a new FF, L-mount body that performs well with M lenses, then reduced sales of the M bodies would be easier to absorb.

The G9 announced today has a nice EVF, at least on paper.

Here’s hoping.

It’ll require a fast sensor readout to drive it though which has implications on AF speed.

That G9 looks good in the video on the Panasonic website. Now image that with an APS-C sensor and the 90-280SL on it.
