Photon42 Posted February 6, 2017 Share #122 Posted February 6, 2017 Is anyone with a silver M10 just a little bit annoyed by the cheap black plastic hot shoe cover? I am not - in the absence of any potential offence to my eyes (yet). But there are alternatives out there, for example from Jay Tsujumura. Maybe that eases the pain. scott kirkpatrick Posted February 6, 2017 Share #124 Posted February 6, 2017 Is anyone with a silver M10 just a little bit annoyed by the cheap black plastic hot shoe cover? You could cover it with the silver thumb rest. scott
Leicaiste Posted February 6, 2017 Share #125 Posted February 6, 2017 When an M is only available with a Red Dot, I buy it in black (easier to black tape).
otto.f Posted February 6, 2017 Share #126 Posted February 6, 2017 You could cover it with the silver thumb rest. scott not at all, it is a good black accent that returns in the context of the black leather and background with screen. Imagine how it would have shown in silver plastic: something like a plastic christmas tree adornment

hollisd Posted February 6, 2017 Share #128 Posted February 6, 2017 Is anyone with a silver M10 just a little bit annoyed by the cheap black plastic hot shoe cover? not at all, it is a good black accent that returns in the context of the black leather and background with screen. Imagine how it would have shown in silver plastic: something like a plastic christmas tree adornment The reason the hot shoe cover is black and not silver is because the piece is plastic. Leica says silver-painted plastic is a no-go because it would pretend to be metal when it's not. This was their recent explanation as to why there's not a silver Visoflex. Leica argues that the black piece looks like plastic and is plastic, so if something looks like metal it should be metal.

Steve Spencer Posted February 6, 2017 Share #130 Posted February 6, 2017 so then they should make an aluminum one They also said metal plays havoc with the EVF and is not a good material for it.

jdlaing Posted February 6, 2017 Share #134 Posted February 6, 2017 My Scottish roots are silver. I don't care if it turns blue as long as it don't turn loose. Welcome, dear visitor! ynp Posted February 6, 2017 Share #136 Posted February 6, 2017 Well, silver is where it all started. Here's my first: Leica_w19mm by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr M2 with it's show-offy Canon 19mm and matching viewfinder, carefully posed so the peeling cover isn't too obvious (in 2002). It has since had a full Sherry Krauter cleanup and is working just fine, thank you. Somewhere along the line it lost my pre-Abrahamson softy. scott Love your Softy!! ynp Posted February 6, 2017 Share #137 Posted February 6, 2017 Wonder what do you guys think about a Silver M10 with a red lens? Read somewhere it's available. Too much of show off?

hollisd Posted February 7, 2017 Share #139 Posted February 7, 2017 (edited) I'm intrigued by the black body / silver lens combo because of the silver lens mount that protrudes from the body. When the lens is silver the transition is seamless, however when the lens is black the [silver] lens mount is jarring to my eyes. So I like the continuity of the silver lens + mount, but I'm curious in the picture below - what the black ring is between what looks like the lens and the lens mount. The black area right above 5.6 in red a few mms thick adjoining the lens mount - is that black the attachable rearward part of the silver lens? (I've never noticed this before) Edited February 7, 2017 by hollisd
Paul J Posted February 7, 2017 Share #140 Posted February 7, 2017 I agree, to my eye: Silver lens on silver body is stunning Back lens on black body is stunning Silver lens on black body is stunning But somehow black lens on silver body is OK but not as nice I wish Leica would make all lenses in silver because my OCD tendencies don't like non matching lenses.
