Nice image. I have also been using a 65 Elmar on my CL, how are you mounting it? What I have done is use a M to L adapter and put an OTRPO extension tube behind the lens into the focus mount. This doesn't give me a stop at infinity, but is workable. Just curious what others are doing.

Hi,

I use the 65mm Elmar on the L mount bodies with a 16464 M mount helicoid, stacked with a 14167 M to R adapter , a Leica  R to M and a M to L adapters .

Compact, from very close focussing to  infinity !

Best, JM.

Here you go.

All taken with the 1957 Canon 35/1.8 LTM wide open on the M10P ASC.

This lens is often overlooked, perhaps because it sits in an uncomfortable position in the Canon range between the faster and more characterful 35/1.5 and the sharper and higher-contrast 35/2.

Thank you very much Ecar.
Very useful images for me as I have been considering trying out this lens for the past few weeks, and I found a nice copy of it.

May I extend my question to ask you what are your top 35mm lenses for character and unique bokeh ? (All brands included)

cheers

Steven

Hi Steven,

I started 'The view through older glass' thread as a thread for pictures abutnd your question has the potential to start a long discussion involving multiple members which would distract this thread so I respectfully request that you start a separate thread for your question please and that way this thread can continue on its merry way. 🙂

Pete.

You certainly may, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to answer that. Honestly.

I actually have fun understanding the design trade-offs involved in the lenses that I own, especially the fast vintage ones, and work with (or around) them. Want a couple of pointers nonetheless? Besides Leica, the Nikkor 35/1.8, Canon 35/1.5, Zunow 35/1.7 and Apoqualia 35/1.4 in the “sub-f/2 area” are good candidates, if only because they are extreme designs (hence their flaws, aka “character”). As for bokeh quality, not only is it very subjective, but it can be surprisingly variable for the same lens depending on aperture, distance and subject.

Now, let's follow the rule and stick to pictures. Here's another one with the with the 1957 Canon 35/1.8 LTM wide open on the M10P ASC.

Somehow I never think of the DR Summicron as an older lens, although mine dates from 1959.
