Soden Posted January 6, 2016 Share #22 Posted January 6, 2016 Well, I have three "SLR"s, a 1914 Graflex and a Hasselblad 503cx and a R9. Other RFs, two 1960's Graflex, M7, IIIa. A Roleiflex GX and two Rollei 35s. No other digital cameras at all (iPhone excepted) So 90% of the time it's a M240/6.

earleygallery Posted January 6, 2016 Share #24 Posted January 6, 2016 Oops just realised this is in the digital M section - I don't own a digital M for clarification!
PaulJohn Posted January 6, 2016 Author Share #25 Posted January 6, 2016 Timely thread. I just sold my M240 after buying an MM246. I wasn't planning to, but it made sense for a few reasons. I spent a lot of time over the weekend considering what I want vs. what I need in a secondary camera. My backups will be a Ricoh GR and a film M body. Thanks Joshua. That's a big step to lose colour for the minor? benefits of the M246 over an M240 in b/w. What % do you shoot b/w? Do you always carry a 2nd body with the MM246 for colour? Do you need the high ISO advantage? I ask because the MM246 would be my dream camera but for the fact that I do shoot colour and do love the M240 colours. At the moment I carry an M-P with 50mm cron, an M4 with 35mm cron and a spare 28mm elmarit for the M-P. The MM246 high ISO benefits over the M240 are clear but I struggle to quantify the tonality benefits at lower ISOs.

hgkafa Posted January 6, 2016 Share #27 Posted January 6, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have my first and newly acquired M240, and I still get a fizzing sensation in specific parts of my body when I say this sentence! My second camera is the Canon 6D. I have a complex set of Lee filters that I can't part with. So the Canon is for landscape and long exposure work. Also, I cannot let go of my 50 mm 1.2L or the 135mm f2.0.
bencoyote Posted January 6, 2016 Share #28 Posted January 6, 2016 Ouch I feel your pain. I had a X100T stolen. Hope your insurance covered you. What do you guys do for insurance? I guess my home owners insurance covers some things but I think I would like some thing more that covers all this expensive gear. When I've looked on line, I didn't see much that isn't geared toward professionals.
Belle123 Posted January 6, 2016 Share #29 Posted January 6, 2016 Besides my 240 and newer 246, love carrying around the Leica T with 35mm m lens on it. Also have Canon 5d which for some reason does better for taking accurate shots of art work which I need. I use a very old Leica Summicron R 35mm lens on the Canon for this. Otherwise, I don't use the Canon much.
fsprow Posted January 6, 2016 Share #30 Posted January 6, 2016 In addition to M240: Leica M3 and M4 Hasselblad SWC Nikon 810 with AFS and older lenses (many) Have considered the SL but the very limited lens availability and the apertures available so far make the Nikon a better option. All my Nikon lenses are f2.8 or faster.

However, with the name 'bencoyote' I would imagine you are over the pond somewhere.

Echo63 Posted January 6, 2016 Share #33 Posted January 6, 2016 I have a bunch of cameras I was actually discussing "how many is too many" with a colleague the other day So Olympus OM2 - sits in a display case. Lenses get used in M240 via adapter Canon Eos300 - my first SLR - sits in display case Canon Eos 350D - my first DSLR - sits in display case Canon 1Dmk1 (x2) used for fun, to remember how far cameras have come. Canon 1Dmk2N - failed shutter, display case. Fuji X100 - when i need AF or fast flash sync (leaf shutter syncs f2@1/1000, with built in ND it allows flash in full sun, wide open) M240 pretty much everything i dont get a paycheck for 2x Canon 1DX - work issued, and i use them for earning my pay. I very rarely bring them home. And a bunch of assorted P+S laying around Olympus Mju1030 and Mju 790, my wifes Canon, an early Fuji, and a Ricoh (my first digital camera) The only ones that get used regularly are the M and the 1DX With very occasional X100 use. pico Posted January 6, 2016 Share #34 Posted January 6, 2016 M9 - the only digital. The rest are film 35mm to LF - viewfinder, rangefinder, view cameras with the exception of a Hasselblad V system which is the only SLR and no longer used.
asiafish Posted January 6, 2016 Share #35 Posted January 6, 2016 Over the last few months I've actually been reducing my Leica M system and expanding my Canon SLR system. It comes from the realization that I most enjoy rangefinder photography with a 35mm or 50mm lens, and for anything else my results are much better with reflex viewing. I'm down to only four Leica M mount lenses, and two (the 90mm Elmarit and vintage 50mm Sonnar) are specialty lenses. 35mm f/2.5 Summarit for general travel and 50mm f/1.4 Summilux ASPH for portraits, events and for when I want a certain edge that 50mm gives. Those two Leica lenses on my M-E and M Monochrom cover about half of my photography, with the SLR system and a much more diverse lens collection the other half. I would really hate to give up either system, and if forced to would likely keep the SLR as I've really gotten into semi-macro photography and enjoy wider than 28mm and longer than 90mm lenses rather often. Peter H Posted January 6, 2016 Share #36 Posted January 6, 2016 M only and no DSLRs for me for the last 5 years or so. All that unnecessarily big and heavy gear belongs in the dark ages of my photography. But I have recently bought a Fuji XT1 because it is such a beautiful little camera to use and it performs miracles both with its own splendid lenses and with Leica M and R lenses attached. I have proved to myself that there is nothing a DSLR can offer me that I can't work around, and to more satisfying effect, with an M.
lct Posted January 6, 2016 Share #37 Posted January 6, 2016 Never sell a Leica lens, my grandmother said . I'd rather keep them and look for a good digital back than selling some of them for any DSLR but YMMV.
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 6, 2016 Share #38 Posted January 6, 2016 I've moved up from M8 to M9 to M240, collecting a few lenses along the way. While waiting for the 240s, with the promise of liveview, I invested first in the Olympus EV2 viewfinder, then some of the 16 MPx series OM-5 cameras, then an E-M1 and M5.2, and if I have to take hundreds of pictures at an event for eventual web display, that kit with its autofocus and good high ISO, gets the job. Some nice R-lenses have followed me home, and since the SL appeared, I've been using it daily for walkabout photography, seeing what the more exotic very wide or medium to long telephotos can do. When I go on a trip with no time and no luggage space for cameras and lenses, I use a Ricoh GR (I've had all the GR-D1-4s before that). The M240s are getting a vacation at the moment, but they will be back in action for a trip coming up in a few weeks. scott
