jaapv Posted August 4, 2015 Share #61 Posted August 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I have been saying for a long time that the M cannot survive long term without some AF capability. This new system sounds by no means impossible. However I would be very surprised if Leica did not give some kind of option for their traditional users, if only in the form of a further developed M240 platform, which, apart from some niggles, leaves little to be desired. Advertisement Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Hi jaapv, Take a look here NEW M.. This year.. This Fall.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted August 4, 2015 Share #62 Posted August 4, 2015 Yuk...I'd hate it if Leica gave up the current rangefinder system and completely revamped the M's. If … But then the rumour refers to a new camera system, implying that it had nothing to do with the M (except that nearly all mirrorless systems allow M lenses to be used with an adapter). Ugh. I think that having a live view system is all that it was lacking if anything. Don't ruin it for me...I haven't even gotten into the Leica system yet and it's being ripped from my fingers!!! lm_user Posted August 4, 2015 Share #64 Posted August 4, 2015 I would guess the camera has an electronic rangefinder of some type and optional autofocus Not sure about the t mount. I can't see Leica abandoning the rangefinder. That would be like Porsche deciding to focus on SUVs

rpavich Posted August 4, 2015 Share #66 Posted August 4, 2015 I thought you were an Epson man! I am...dedicated Epson! (until my credit card is paid down next year then I will be "bi-camera" and the 240 will be my main squeeze and the Epson will be a backup.

rpavich Posted August 4, 2015 Share #68 Posted August 4, 2015 Not missing the x100? Well...it was a great camera for sure but I always longed for a rangefinder and the X-cameras just fell short. If I could have kept it as a back up I might have but I needed the cash.

Don't ruin it for me...I haven't even gotten into the Leica system yet and it's being ripped from my fingers!!! Nothing ripping, the M system will likely toddle on. The main problem seems to be that it might have reached a platform in the M240/246.

If I could have kept it as a back up I might have but I needed the cash. I'm on my way to get a Leica as we speak. Not sure I can part with my x100 (not sure I'd get much for it either being the original one). I still love it though...

Robert M Poole Posted August 4, 2015 Share #72 Posted August 4, 2015 Great! Looking forward to reading your impressions of it.M9 mint, new sensor plus 50mm Summerit. £2700. I'm in love.
rpavich Posted August 4, 2015 Share #73 Posted August 4, 2015 M9 mint, new sensor plus 50mm Summerit. £2700. I'm in love. That's pretty freaking cheap! I didn't like the M9...it seemed "glacial" in it's operation and the shutter "whirrr" bugged me. In any case...please start a thread about it! Belle123 Posted August 4, 2015 Share #74 Posted August 4, 2015 It is all interesting to read what people want and don't want in a new M. The question is what makes the M unique? For me, a totally manual simple yet superior camera is a joy to use. I want a camera that forces me to "think". Add all these 'features' ..... Starting to lose it for me. The 'range finder' should be a keeper always, even if it's in electronic form. Keeping it portable and discreet, an absolute must!
Cliff S Posted August 4, 2015 Share #75 Posted August 4, 2015 Rangefinders are great no doubt. When I'm shooting architecture and have time to pick my point, lock an exposure and shoot. But don't dismiss AF. Shots that I could not get at 0.95 or 1.4 for a really shallow DOF on my M240 with moving subjects, come out spectacular on my Q. Xspider Posted August 4, 2015 Share #76 Posted August 4, 2015 If … But then the rumour refers to a new camera system, implying that it had nothing to do with the M (except that nearly all mirrorless systems allow M lenses to be used with an adapter). Hmm a Leica Q with interchangeable lenses, pobably even an electronic rangefinder... sounds interesting
thighslapper Posted August 4, 2015 Share #77 Posted August 4, 2015 Having used the viewfinder on the Q I personally would not be weeping if the RF mechanism was ditched ..... having had to adjust the bu**er on numerous occasions it is hardly the best way of focussing a digital camera with very finicky fast Leica lenses. A hybrid system would be ideal ...... but I suspect they would not be able to get it to do both RF and EVF as well as either separately...... and shoving the whole lot into a slimmed down body would be impossible. The main issue with the M series is the horrible EVF bolted on top ...... if this was a low profile oblong like the integral EVF on the Q and overhung the back of the camera a bit to reduce it's impact it would be fine. As I said a long while ago the addition of AF contacts on the M Mount is not insurmountable and little else mechanically would need doing to use AF lenses ..... Looking at the logical sensible solutions I have every confidence that the new camera will basically be a Q with interchangeable AF lenses and a T like adapter for legacy lenses....... and a separate line with RF and a new EVF using almost identical components for the non optical bits. I really don't think Leica are going to be able to produce 'one ring to rule them all' .......and keep everyone happy.
cirke Posted August 4, 2015 Share #78 Posted August 4, 2015 why not a M with options ? with or without RF

lct Posted August 4, 2015 Share #80 Posted August 4, 2015 Option, i don't think so. Just the new M and a new M-E based on the M240 i suspect. Pure speculation from my part though.
