Yes, but you will still have it in pristine condition!

Me and my wife have come to an age where my wife states that I am basically free to buy whatever Leica stuff I want... but then Iˋd better use it. No shelf stuff accepted 😉

And I really appreciate this ¨push¨...

Curious if anybody has tried the new B+W 43mm T-Pro Filter with the hood. It alleges to be an even thinner filter than their XS-Pro... Maybe this would allow our infamous hoods to finally clip on?

Just giving this question a bump to see if anyone has tried the B+W 43mm T-Pro Filter with the hood yet?

Any success?

I'm reading this threat with increasing disbelief. What I understand is that Leica was willing to take all the effort of fitting the modern floating lens element design of the Summilux-M 50 into a brass barrel design from the old days. They even went the extra mile with duplicating the beautiful matching hood. Still they are unable to make a simple UVa version of the old 13206 with 43x0.75 threat?!?!?! People are put off with a rediculous modification of the hood (which ruins the looks!) instead of supplying the correct filter...?

I just bought this Black Chrome Edition and didn't realize the different filter threat until reading this post. I used to have the old Summilux 50 E43 (black-1982) with the silver coloured 13206 UVa and I kind of liked the combo. It easily reminded me there was a UVa screwed on. I could use the lens with- or without the hood, with- or without the filter, whatever was needed. I think the ONLY solution Leica must come up with is to produce  a 13206 type UVa with the correct threat to fit the Black Chrome Edition without restrictions to using the hood. Especially now it seems the lens is not limited edition, but standard supply.

Amazing that this thread has been going for so long. Back in the 80's I fitted various filters to my Summilux 50mm F1.4 with 43mm thread by filing 4 indents into the rear rim of each filter to form grooves into which the metal spring loaded catches of the matching hood would fit. An added advantage was the hood did not inadvertently rotate as it did when fitted directly to the lens, so the see through cut outs stayed in the same position. The hood would also fit on in the reverse position for storage or transit.

Hi s4159765,

I came very close to buying it from B&H. Before I did I took a very good look at the hood and I don't think it will work.

with the hood in place without a filter, the internal ridge between the hood clamps rests on the tip of the lens. it seems the with of any filter would have less that the tip of the lens for it to clear the ridge and unfortunately the T-Pro filter is not.

Take a look at post#180 for a photo

hello Kwesi, use the lathe,my friend help me with this in China;

1st.make two circular discs(the same diameter to the UV or a bit larger);

2nd.put uv in the middle of the two disc and ensure them coaxial;

3rd.get on the lathe.

ps:the two circular discs can help the lathe fasten them without damage the UV

Depending which lens you are worried about, this might help.  I have some Leica M-series Summicrons that take the old Leica 12585 clip-on hood.  I found that the hood will not go over a Kood UV filter, but it will go over a B+W filter e.g the XS-Pro Digital.  These have a profile narrower than the front of the Leica lens, allowing the hood to pass over the filter and clip on to the groove in the lens.

Hello,

the entire thread is focused on the 50 Summilux ASPH special unlimited edition.

The only way to get the hood to fit is:

1. buy vintage leica filters that fairly rare.

2. have Leica modify the hood by cutting it in half

3. modify filters yourself like Evange did.

None of the modern slim filters work without modification, after years of searching.

I suspect they won't fit due to different thread pitch but i may be wrong as i have no experience with this lens.

You are typically more knowledgeable than I on this stuff so I defer to you. I thought I had read there was a UV filter that leica made that fits this set up but I’d have to dig through everything.

Well, I seem to have tracked down the manufacturer and supplier of this filter. Only problem is I can't read the page so don't know how to order.

Can anyone help?
