Some cosmetics differences in the Silver and Black.

The script engraving on top only on silver, nothing on top of the black, the serial number on the hot-shoe side.

Yes, I know the general cosmetic differences between the two models but I had forgotten that the black bodies seem to have the flat lens release button as standard. The photo on the Leica website shows the black M-A with a slotted head release. My own black M-A is different in a number of ways – including having the slotted head lens release and the other type (less plain) rewind clutch lever.

HI ay idea how old this ma is please

Serial Number 4914359

No older than five and a half years is all you can say for certain (unless you have the box – in which case, there should be a date printed on it somewhere).

As Ian wrote, no accurate way to know the date of manufacturing if not having this date on the Quality Check card or on the box.

Numbering can be odd : look here from post #675 onward

Anyway, M-A age is not so important,

mines age very well.

Yes, the camera hasn't been around long enough for the age to be relevant. Condition of course is another matter but that is dependent upon how a camera has been used and nothing to do with when the camera was made.

Sooner than we think, there will be collectors categorising and hunting for each variable.  😜

The source of this “naked” Leica image seems to be here: [...] Where it is labeled as a “naked MP” not an M-A, and if you look, it is black paint like an MP—not black chrome. Also, the lens release button is an MP style rounded one, not the M-A style flat one.

It's labeled "naked MP" but that's wrong. The lens-release button is correct; my silver-chrome M-A has the same. So is the filled-in battery chamber. The final give-away is the notch on the shutter-speed dial's rim. This clearly indicates a meterless camera. The black paint is unusual—probably an à-la-carte option.

The notch on the shutter speed dial and the front viewfinder without reflective band ( = no LED in the VF ) 😉.

It is most likely the MP Classic so it is not incorrect to label it a "naked MP". That camera is identical to the M-A bar the black paint finish, the 'leather' covering and the rear film speed reminder. I know this because I have owned all three cameras – MP, MP Classic and M-A.

Searching for MP Classic, I see that Leica did not "copy" the whole concept to make M-A.

Some differences as said Ian above.

To compare them with M-A photos we see here,

back door, engravings on top, leatherette, etc.

Has anyone seen any new M-A's for sale? Everywhere seems to be out of stock? What is the best way to get ahold of one?

I'd ring around a few of the smaller dealers before concluding that everywhere is out of stock. If you can't find one, the best advice is to get your name down for one with a dealer that has a good relationship with Leica. You'll get the camera as soon as Leica have produced another batch of film cameras (which might be next week or next year).

Landiah,

Ian's advice is the way (s) to go if you want one M-A fast , even order new the waiting time can be long...

They are very scarse and already attain "collector's status " 😇 ( for me I'll keep them for years to come to use ).

To add to my previous comment, can someone offer to a list of reputable Leica dealers in the US?

Leica Miami has a brand new M-A for sale on their website. www.leicastoremiami.com

Excellent dealer.
