deoman Posted May 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This weekend I was experimenting with my Visoflex III housing and the 65mm Elmar lens on an M8 body. Because of the crop factor of the sensor, I found it was frustrating to do careful composition. With this in mind, I believe it would be very helpful to make a semi-transparent mask for the ground glass on the Visoflex III housing which could be put on top of the ground glass, but under the metal portion which screws down and holds the ground glass to the Visoflex housing. It would be very thin and should not be an issue for precise focusing. Does anyone have a to-scale version of the crop factor vs the Visoflex ground glass which could be posted, or some easy directions on how to make such an overlay which would be accurate without a bunch of trial and error testing? Advertisement Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Hi deoman, Take a look here Visoflex III Ground Glass. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Artichoke Posted May 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2007 here is his advice: Make your own frame mask: A piece of LCD protector foil A sharp knife/surgical scalpel A 10x loupe on a stand Some patience: Cut the inside to 18x24 Cut the outside to 22x34 round corners And stick it on top of your matte screen I just used a Sharpie on the ground glass (alcohol should remove it if you want to resell the Viso, but this is not a question for me) this macro thread, in which jaapv posted this helpful advice is a good read http://www.leica-camera-user.com/leica-m8-forum/20043-m8-macro-thread-2.html let us know how this goes I love using my Viso with the M8 ...I wish Leica would produce a new model with a pc synch cord connection
ho_co Posted May 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2007 Dennis-- Also check out the short thread http://www.leica-camera-user.com/leica-m8-forum/22353-visoflex-iii-focusing-screen-question.html. It's more expensive than DIY, but it'll give you a ballpark on what you're looking at to have a custom screen installed. --HC

jaapv Posted May 10, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 10, 2007 I just had my screen exchanged by Brightscreen for the matte with M8 markings screen. Beautiful!! A very bright screen with superbly excuted framelines. It was clear that the conversion had been done by somebody smoking a pipe

LUF Admin Posted September 29, 2023 Share #9 Posted September 29, 2023 I think we had a script for forwarding such links after our migration in 2015. But obviously it got lost in one of the later moves. Andreas

Ronazle Posted October 29, 2023 Share #12 Posted October 29, 2023 The Sharpie approach has worked well for me since I received my first M8. Dots in the correct frame corners on the ground glass are what I ended up with and have never regretted it. The applicable Confucian advice: "avoid the complex it is subject to failure".
