Leica X Vario / Leitz Elpro V1b 4.92 dioptre supplementary achromatic close-up lens ... ISO 400  1/4 sec f9 ... illuminated by: diffused Jessops 4x5 mini light box on LHS;  white reflector on RHS; small LED torch directed at the white reflector ...  watch supported on a film tub ... manual thus 'magnified' focus. Note the tiny hole in the minute hand luminous paint ... quite normal ... and purist collectors will leave 'as is' .. part of its 'wabi sabi' charisma.

Leica X Vario / Leitz Elpro V1b 4.92 dioptre supplementary achromatic close-up lens ... Camera on a small RS Components copy stand ... ISO 400  1/4 sec f9 ... illuminated by: diffused Jessops 4x5 mini light box on LHS;  white reflector on RHS; small LED torch directed at the white reflector ...  watch supported on a film tub ... manual thus 'magnified' focus.

Watch is 77 years young and in excellent working order ... keeping good time to within a few seconds /day ... designed to an MOD specification ... there were 12 Swiss watch manufacturers supplying the WWW series to the MOD during WW2 ... hence known as the 'dirty dozen' by military watch collectors.

After WW2 the 'dirty dozen watches' could be purchased from 'ex government stores' for a few ££ each ... now highly collectible and prices vary from c. £800 - £3000 depending on condition and make ... but the scarcest, made by GRANA, sells for c. £10K ... if you can source one.

OMEGA WWW 'dirty dozen' "tritium" lume shot taken with the X Vario at ISO 12500 after exposure to UV torchlight; camera on small copy stand ... watch on copy stand base

The XV's ISO 12500 capability (quite good for its YOM) does have its uses ... 1/4 sec f7.1 in total darkness ... Watch is fitted  with a replacement MOD 'flat sub-seconds' tritium lume dial ... as distinct from OMEGA radium lume dial. Dials and hands were replaced by MOD watchmakers during routine servicing.
