AncientCityPhoto Posted May 5, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted May 5, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey everyone! I have been searching for the perfect bag to hold an M and several lenses since most bags are too deep. Â I stuck a Hadley Small insert into a Timbuk2 xtra small messenger and it is just awesome! Perfect padding, feel, and size. Â Review: Timbuk2 Xsmall & Billingham Insert as a camera bag for Leica M Â I have a bunch of pictures and examples on my blog about it. Â I also have a ThinkTank Retrospective 5 arriving on Monday that I am reviewing. Has anyone else ordered this bag? I have the Retrospective 10 but it is way too big for an M. bill Posted May 5, 2011 Share #2  Posted May 5, 2011 Glad you are happy; this does however prove that there is no such thing as the ''perfect'' bag I for one would never use one like that, although I do use a Hadley Pro insert in anything from a leather briefcase to a bag bought from Gap for £10.  Regards,  Bill

jaapv Posted May 5, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted May 5, 2011 There are about twenty or thirty "perfect" small bags on the market. I just bought a mint Leica M Kleine Kombitasche on e-bay Now THAT bag is perfect.

Nick_S Posted May 5, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted May 5, 2011 I quite enjoy bag, case and strap threads. I found out about Fogg cases from the forum a few years ago, and now I'm about to order a Stephens wrist strap for my M6. Â Nick
msteber Posted May 5, 2011 Share #10  Posted May 5, 2011 Hey Ancient  I just read and enjoyed your review and came away wondering why you didn't just buy the Hadley Small.  I agree with everything you say about the Hadley Small insert. Very soft, and will comfortably hold an M9, a 24 Elmarit, a 35 Summarit, a 50 Lux, and a 75 Summarit, my kit experience. It is perfect for me!  But I have a real problem with that bag lid, just like I did with the Oscar's day bag. I don't see a sealed closure. The A&A is worse as it is not cut flat, and that "flap" triangle has to be pushed in or left out, exposing a gap that could let water in. The Hadley Small has a cup-like cover that completely seals the lid, and you have the padded insert lid under that as well. The strap and rivet closure mechanism makes entry/exit a snap, better than I would think your bag does. I am really, really impressed with Billingham quality and design.  So I vote for the Hadley Small as the best small kit bag, and the Pola for a one lens bag. I really enjoy these bag threads and have learned a lot from them. As others say, there are a lot of perfect bags out there. These threads help you find the "most perfect" one for you.  Mark
delander †Posted May 5, 2011 Share #11  Posted May 5, 2011 What's wrong with a Lowepro? Nobody here seems to even consider them. Very common bag giving no indication of the value of the contents.  Jeff

AncientCityPhoto Posted May 5, 2011 Author Share #15 Â Posted May 5, 2011 Agreed, there is no perfect bag. It's why I own at least 60% of think tank's product line, as well as various lowepro bags and others. Â I don't like Billingham's style personally. That's why I tried the timbuk2. Â My retrospective 5 bag arrives on Monday and I will have a review up sometime next week. I have a retro 10 as well. Â I know there are a lot of bag threads, but I enjoy seeing what solutions are out there. You never know when you need a new bag solution for something you never needed before! Fotofanatiker Posted May 5, 2011 Share #16 Â Posted May 5, 2011 I don't like Billingham's style personally. That's why I tried the timbuk2. Â Same here... With a Billingham I would always feel like I'd have to shoot down some geese immediately... Â BTW I found your site even before you posted here when I was looking for some reviews of the Timbuk2 messenger XS plus some padded inserts...
