The interest and our attraction to quality such as the classic LTM models is shared.  Yes, this iiic and the more recent Elmar are fully operable.  The 1938 year parallels my own existence on earth.  Definitely, at minimum a roll a year is in order.  Hyperion strap.

Just realized this is not a IIIc.  Likely a IIIa from what I can see.  It's beautiful, much like my favorite barnack in my cupboard...a IIIa of 1936.  The redscale elmar is an excellent lens too.  This is a true photo making combo.

That is one option I have been considering. I have two other Luigi cases (for M4 and IIf). The other option is a wrist strap and connector to the tripod bush, but just for security - not for 'hygiene'.

What colour is that case? I mean what colour does Luigi call that?

That is Natural Aged Brown.

I’m new to the club. This beauty was purchased via Catawiki. And I guess I got quite lucky. Condition and function is amazing.

I usually carry a III of some kind or another (IIIc, IIIf, IIIg) around with me. The IIIc and an Elmar make for a reliable companion.

It can be a chore for an old man to keep with with a youngster though ...

They all look somewhat the same, but I'm happy to be counted among the screw mounters, Barnack-heads, Barnack-o-philes, or whatever ;). I bought my IIIc with Elmar last year from the classifieds at photrio. I've since purchased a Canon 35mm 2.0 to go with it. I'm tempted to get the collapsible Elmar 35 though, just because I love how compact it is with the Elmar.

When I bought it, I'd mainly been using a Retina 1b as a carry-around camera. And I love the 1b, it takes excellent pictures. But I thought it would be nice to have interchangeable lenses, a rangefinder, and better ergonomics. I wasn't wrong. Using the 1b for a couple years made me very comfortable with hyperfocal focusing, so it was a useful exercise for developing the confidence to really lean into it. I tend to shoot the Leica hyper focally and only use the rangefinder when I feel like being a little slower and more precise.

Another thing I like about the Elmar is using the infinity stop as a reference point. It's very intuitive.

As a 35mm kind of person who wears glasses I've thought about getting a M2, but I'm not in a rush. Maybe I'll find a good deal.
