Yes, Michael, the Leica S1 scanning camera was well ahead of its time in my opinion but I was referring to: "For the image to equal Kodachrome in quality it would require 25 megapixels 16 bits deep." and whether the Kodachrome was in question was 135 format or 6x7 cm (medium) format?

Pete.

Hello Pete,

Sorry that my answer was unclear.

The format  is 36mm X 36mm

Having 5,140 pixels in 36mm by 5,140 pixels in 36mm is just over the resolution of Kodachrome 64.

Just as F 2 at 1 second, ISO 100/21 (EV +2) is just under 1 Foot Candle, or is around 10 Lux of illumination.

Best Regards,

Michael

his camera used to be a Leica I. It was converted at Leitz factory to a Leica IIa syn

=> a Leica "II" becaus of rangefinder "a" becoaus of 1/1000 "syn" because of flash sychronisation

one of my loveliest cams :)

I missed my Barnack I used to have and I decided to buy another! I got a ‘54 IIIf RD ST coming in and I’m going to stick with using 35mm lenses on it for now. I have a Canon 35mm f/2 lens which I use on my M bodies but I’ll need to pick up a viewfinder to use as well.

Hooray for Barnacks!

Hooray for Barnacks!

There is no 35mm finder better than the Leitz SBLOO bright line one. The multi focal length VF's are a very poor substitute, even the best of them, the TEWE zoom finder.

I think there is a clearer one, Wilson, the Zeiss 35 mm finder.  (I can't be sure what you mean by "better" in this instance.)  And, yes, I used to have a SBLOO.

Pete,

I went the other way from a Zeiss 35mm finder to the SBLOO. Mind you I think my 35mm Zeiss finder might have been the personal property of Carl Zeiss and very definitely had seen better days. I have the Zeiss 18mm finder and yes it is excellent but no better I think than the SBLOO. It might be more rectilinear, which is a challenge with an 18mm finder (Voigtlander failed the rectilinear test with the 21mm finder that accompanies my 21/f4 Skopar lens) but the Zeiss 18mm bright line does not spring out as well as the SBLOO. I also have the TEWE zoom finder 35-200mm which is good for a multi focal length finder, far better than a VIDOM but still nothing like as good as fixed focal length finders. I still hope to find an 85mm SGOOD to use with my Summarex, at a reasonable price, as they tend to fetch silly money.

Wilson,

Funnily enough my SBLOO wasn't new either and had 'earned its badges' so that might account for our differing views (so to speak ).

Well I thought I was rejoining the Barnack ranks.. The seller on eBay just informed me the camera I just bought and paid for was already sold. That’s unfortunate.

Have you got your money back? I hope so. What the seller did is a serious contravention of eBay rules. The item should be removed immediately if sold elsewhere and in theory, cannot be removed after there is a single bid on it.

Pete.

My SBLOO has a cracked front element, I filled the crack with varnish and its hardly noticeable in use, paid peanuts for it so worth the slight inconvenience as a 'user'

So... I excitedly posted a list of the LTM gear I've just inherited from my father, little thinking that it might be interpreted as an offer for sale! Nor, for that matter, realising that that would have contravened any rules even if I had wanted to sell. Just to clarify: I absolutely do not want to sell my beautiful cameras and lenses; instead, I want to buy a truckload of Tri-X and give up my job.

Apologies to anyone who was misled. I was just trying to join in the gear-related fun.
