I started my Leica life with an M9, which interestingly turned me to film and an M6ttl. I now want the 'ultimate' classic Leica and an M3. I was wondering though, I want to pair it with a classic 50mm with a classic signature - am tempted by a Rigid Cron, but would appreciate any other suggestions.

Thanks for the amazing pictures/porn, just makes me more resolute about getting the M3 now!

In 1968 I passed on the M3 and bought my M4 instead at the same price. I finally picked up an M3 a few years ago to see what I missed. I like the classic style, and have kept is with period-correct accessories, as they all feel right together. My main problem is that I prefer a 35mm lens as my normal. So with the M3 version of the Summicron 35 I am using it more, but the extra optics detract from the view crispness. I need to get the lens serviced and see if that helps. However, after 40 years using it, my M4 still feels more "right" to me.

My M3 with 3.5 Summaron. Since I cleaned the haze from it, this little lens is becoming a favourite of mine.

Still an outstanding lens. Has character.

I'm glad to hear this. I bought one and ever since all I've heard is I should've got the 2.8.

It's away being cleaned.

The 2.8 may be "better" - it clearly is faster. I like what my 3.5 does, and I have no intention to change it for anything. I like the pictures it produces - as far as I can tell, that is the criterion and I am generally not much influenced by such debates.
