adan Posted December 28, 2021 Share #16724 Posted December 28, 2021 (edited) The fender/wing lines (and a couple of other details) scream "Alvis Speed 25 2-door drophead/cabriolet" of 1938±. Especially the duck-tail on the rear. However, the boot profile seems gentler and more compact than most of them. Maybe just a specific coach builder? hektor Posted December 28, 2021 Share #16725 Posted December 28, 2021 Adan, I can see the simalarity, but it is not an Alvis of any type. The model in question is a production car of which nearly three thousand were made in saloon and drop-head form.
pippy Posted December 28, 2021 Share #16726 Posted December 28, 2021 (edited) Are we somewhere near c.1938 Tickford-bodied MG SA DHC territory? Philip. Edited December 28, 2021 by pippy

pippy Posted December 28, 2021 Share #16728 Posted December 28, 2021 Thank you, Hektor. I only discovered those quite late-on in life but they struck me as being rather beautifully proportioned. OK; again, not sure if this will be easy or otherwise. Last one I posted was far too easy so Must Do Better as my report card unfailingly said. Bit of a clue first; It's a Special. By that I mean the bodywork is possibly a one-off BUT it is very largely based on the general bodywork shape of a similar offering from the same manufacturer. In light of this I only need the name of said Company. I'll try not to give clues which offer no help whatsoever; I will endeavour to include at least something which might be recognisable from either the maker or else the 'inspiration' for the shape in each image - assuming no-one gets it from the very first picture...... wlaidlaw Posted December 29, 2021 Share #16730 Posted December 29, 2021 I think the tail fin on this car looks identical to the one on ours but as I am in Barbados with no access to car photos, I will leave it to others. Wilson

Wilson Thank you Wison! If you would like me to send you a PM in order to verify your suspicions please do let me know. In the meantime I trust you are having a wonderful time on holiday. Probably much like where you are the temperature here in London is currently in the high 90s. Unfortunately, however, ours is measured in Fahrenheit(*). OK; here's another snap of her hindquarters. I'm showing this area for the time being because AFAIC tell this area of the 'Special' takes quite a lot of inspiration from the manufacurer's regular model; Welcome, dear visitor! hektor Posted December 30, 2021 Share #16736 Posted December 30, 2021 Good morning Pippy. I intended staying out of this one to give others a turn, but in the absence of takers IMHO it is a Riley Nine MPH "special".
Rona!d Posted December 30, 2021 Share #16737 Posted December 30, 2021 Me too would have thought of an MPH chassis Tourer special with Sprite body parts but lack of pictures forbid a guess. It´s possibly chassis-no. 6014358 made in 1931 with a later (1939) 2.5 ltr. Riley 16 twin cam.
Rona!d Posted December 31, 2021 Share #16738 Posted December 31, 2021 We had another Riley MPH Special this september in this thread. Reminds me of an old idea of mine: Driving the only Riley sports SALOON among a dozen of Riley "Special Roadsters" in a rallye.
pippy Posted December 31, 2021 Share #16739 Posted December 31, 2021 (edited) Good evening / morning (delete as appropriate as they say!) gentlemen! Well; what can I say? You wait three days for a bus and then... You are, of course, both correct in that it is indeed a Riley MPH-based Special. Ronald wins a tick and a star for including both the chassis No. as well as the registration plate. The following info about this car is currently 'out there' in www-land; "1931 Riley MPH Tourer Special. Chassis number: XXXXXXX. Registration number: Reg. No. XX XXXX. A beautifully proportioned Riley Special based upon an MPH chassis. The pleasing body lines were taken from an original sprite & are very well executed. Under the bonnet is a 2.5 litre Riley 16 twin cam engine from 1939..." I snapped the car at the 2016 Crystal Palace Sprint Meeting and must say that in the 'flesh' the car was a very handsome thing! As I asked only for the marque - and as Ronald may not an offering in the pipeline in any case - it will be Hektor in control for the next puzzle! A pair of snaps to tidy up and thanks for playing everyone! Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted December 31, 2021 Share #16740 Posted December 31, 2021 This is really a nice one. Under the bonnet you can find the original Riley replacement engine badge. Go Hektor !
