I am new to Leica. I am going to purchase a used 90mm 2.0 Summicron from a dealer (well known). My question. Were all of these made in Canada?

It doesn't matter where it was made, the quality is just the same. German lenses are just as good as the Canadian ones.

 

My 90 Summicron-R was made in Canada and it's a fabulous lens.

I have one in chrome and not only is as good optically as the 90mm ASPH by my informal testing but it the most beautiful of all the Leica lenses. A truly impressive piece of workmanship.-Dick

To answer your question I think some were made in Canada and some in Germany. If you are a collector that will make a difference to you. If you're a user, German and Canadian lenses are the same quality, and some of the most sought-after lenses in the Leica stable were not only made in Canada but designed there as well.

The legendary Noct and the venerable 75 Lux, to name but two.

I have this lens (a 3-cam version) and it is just great. The only negative about it is the very poorly designed lens cap which I've nearly lost three times now. A great lens for a moderate (for Leica) price on the used market.

 

Stop it down and shoot some slides. Colors are vibrant and it is very sharp. One of my favorite lenses.
