dkCambridgeshire Posted June 12, 2019 Share #229 Posted June 12, 2019 Graham, it's in superb cosmetic condition … but, as with many older M cameras the finder is slightly 'hazy' (it's 36 years 'young') … so it will need a service at some stage. However, it's a very usable camera and the 'haze' is hardly noticeable in good light. I know an experienced Leica camera technician who is capable of servicing a Leica M rangefinder properly … good technicians are scarce and their services are in demand … hence there is a backlog of work and I might have to wait 2/3 months before the work can be completed. dunk
mdp Posted June 12, 2019 Share #230 Posted June 12, 2019 It looks similar to the M4-P I had. It had barely been used, but a quick service to clean the view finder, check the shutter speeds etc soon had it like a brand new camera...
Pono Posted August 16, 2019 Share #231 Posted August 16, 2019 I wear glasses so the 28mm external VF is a great help with critical composition..these two are my travel cameras now. Guest Posted August 16, 2019 Share #232 Posted August 16, 2019 hello, you may have seen my two threads about the m-a and what lens to get. the m-a will be my first leica (waiting for delivery, hopefully new batch shows up at end of the month), but i'm already researching what my second one will be because i love how they feel so much and it seems the m4-p is an extremely popular option. i'm wondering if you feel this would be the ideal companion for my m-a, or if perhaps something with a meter, like an m6 or mp might be a better option. i really don't want to have multiple m-bodies, just two. i'm sure some of you have said "just two" but ended up with a dozen and that's fine, but really i can only have two. as lovely as the m4-p seems, i thought it might be nice to have an m with a built in light meter for convenience. what do you guys think? smiway Posted August 17, 2019 Share #233 Posted August 17, 2019 M 4-P is a great camera. I either use a handheld light meter or Sunny 16 exposure method. If you want a built in meter get yourself a good used M6. You can’t go wrong either way, Enjoy your camera! Rick Smith
Frankie-p Posted August 17, 2019 Share #234 Posted August 17, 2019 Here's my baby. Purchased 2-3 weeks ago here in Rome. I had always been aiming for an M6 because of the light meter but figured what the heck. I've been shooting for so long now... and film is so forgiving. Best decision I've ever made! No light meter simplifies things so much and all you think about is taking the picture. Now that I finally have it, I cant believe I've been thinking about buying one for the past 4 years or so. Should've purchased it sooner when prices were cheaper but whatever..... In any case, I'm a happy owner now Welcome, dear visitor! Graham (G4FUJ) Posted December 31, 2020 Share #235 Posted December 31, 2020 Wish I'd bought one a year or two back. Prices now seem pretty steep!
bags27 Posted December 31, 2020 Share #236 Posted December 31, 2020 (edited) Best thing to happen to me is that I had put a "protective" case on mine which, everytime I took it off to change film, rubbed off a small bit of the front vulcanite. Oh no, I said! Well, what the heck, someday I'm going to have to get the vulcanite replaced, I might as well carry the M4-P with me everywhere now. So I treat it like it's a news photographer's camera. Just sling it over my shoulder and shoot and shoot and shoot (I do my own developing and scanning, so that helps with cost). It's now a little uglier and a lot more beautiful. Edited December 31, 2020 by bags27

edstock Posted February 19, 2021 Share #239 Posted February 19, 2021 I love my M4-P. It's the anniversary model, never used and had just been CLAd by DAG prior to my purchasing it. So essentially a "new" camera. It sits well with my M6 and M7.

By the way, I love my M4P. Love it. It's a Tank! My favorite M, with the best framelines and finder of all the Ms. I solved the maybe it's a keeper versus maybe it's crap, problem. I bought a brand new M-A!
