If you’re expecting the M11-V to be announced in May then prepare for disappointment 🙁

There has been no patent filed for a viewfinder for at least five years. I doubt that there has been much R&D invested. Don't expect anything revolutionary if anything at all.

Can you believe 69 pages of nothing specific about a Leica EVF except for a Leica rumors article.

Let me introduce a crazy, but not impossible, rumour: the EVF model will use BlackMagic's 12K cinema sensor. 98 megapixels, and no shutter. It won't be any cheaper than an M11, and it won't support flash, but it will have IBIS. Battery life will be abysmal, but there will be an accessory battery grip that looks like a Leicavit.

The same sensor will be available in L-Mount in the new PYXIS 12K, to be revealed today.

Come on Elmar, put the cards on the table. You are using the V for more than a year as a pre-release- tester. This way you can significantly slim down this thread... :)

No way, even if I knew something. Andreas, our forum host, lives from threads like this.

An RGBW filter array sounds interesting - the sort of left field approach Leica might go for. But a 12ms (1/80s) readout time, while good for video, is still not attractive for motion-freezing stills with no mechanical shutter alternative.

Motion freezing depends on the shutter speed, not on readout time. My experience is that with 1/80 sec readout time much of noticeable rolling shutter effect will disappear.

The same way as the M1 for the M2, the EVF-M could be a mere variant of the M11 with the lack of rangefinder as main difference. Hardly a revolution but could be a cheaper alternative tailored for US consumers faced to their new import taxes. The revolution, if any, could be Leica investing in the USA to escape the said taxes. Just a guess.

It goes down to 5.5 milliseconds (1/180s) at 8K (35 megapixels).

I know what you mean but I suspect car wheels will still be noticeably elliptical.

the tariffs will have zero impact on whats announced.  Products aren't just developed on whims, and no doubt are already being manufactured for a May launch date.

Also they have zero effect on the rest of the world, and their sales.  If I was a brand selling products I would shift my focus more onto markets where I could increase market share, rather than the US markets where it is likely to reduce.

I still believe something will happen on 3 May since it 100 years to the day. Maybe a reissue M3?

There has been speculation about something analog coming this year; maybe a ‘special special’ edition in very limited numbers and no doubt a stratospheric price.
The M Edition 70 set a price benchmark, although there has been virtually no press coverage on that camera since it was announced last October.

Interestingly, the 96MP sensor in the Blackmagic cameras has the same pixelsize than the Lumix GH6/7 and G9. I really think, that‘s the new sensor platform for Lumix, Leica and Blackmagic. Probably the RGBW color filter will be proprietary Blackmagic.

But somehow I don‘t think Leica would use a new sensor for an iteration of the M11. If the name of the rumored camera really is M11-V. But it would be really tempting to have a high res camera without a shutter.

A new mirrorless medium format camera could be a good place for this sensor. The Ursa 17k allready has a bigger version of this sensor platform.
