I don't get threads like these.

Had Leica said *focus stacking is coming*, sure. But they didn't. So, it's on the buyer to check if a system has the functions they require. Shouldn't you be angry at yourself because you didn't do the research, rather than Leica who has never made claims about stacking in the SL3?

Quoting myself because I need to clarify.

I am absolutely 100% behind requests for firmware requests. There’s a bunch I don’t like about the SL3 I think Leica could change.

Just that I accept that if they’re not implemented I don’t blame the camera. I just need to look elsewhere for those features or learn to live with them.

Please Leica. EFCS! :)

Not the OP, but obviously I don't mind commenting here. Needs change as one's photography change. I was perfectly content with manual focus bracketing in the past.  It should be relatively easy to implement. Maybe Leica could even provide an implementation that's superior to the clunky way it's done by Sony and Canon.

I'd like to see EFCS as well for that matter....

By the way, I do not think moving water is a good candidate for focus bracketing and stacking. Your previous image of static leaves would work well with focus bracketing.

You never know.... 😆

Note that even with this setup locked down (and 30 years of long lens tripod experience, it's possible to accidentally change framing on the camera just with manual focus adjustments, particularly above 300mm. And I"ve done stacking all the way to 600mm.

Would a follow-focus make a difference for the time being?

Yes focus stacking would be handy, especially if it was blended in camera perfectly and outputted a combined raw. Not sure if possible.

Id like the multi shot stitch, just to see what a 240mp image from an APO lens looks like 😲

Constant improvements that I can’t think of are always welcomed.

Love the SL3, looking forward to seeing what they come up with

yes, I'd really like them to add multishot. I'm surprised it's not available (yet?) in the SL3.

If it materialises, I wonder if it would be like the SL2, which is uses 8-shots .....or if Leica is looking at alternative - eg, the X2D recently came out with a 4-shot multishot.

It would be great if theres a way of a handheld high res mode and then a tripod mode like the OMD. Although, maybe not the need for more resolution at 60mp when shooting handheld.

No camera can focus stack and output raw results.

Most people do that: try it once or twice and then never use it again. That is probably why Leica did not port it to SL3, even though some owners could find it very useful.

I would still like them to address magnified view.  It is significantly more difficult to manually focus by eye in magnified view on the SL3 than it was with the SL2-S.  I'm surprised we haven't seen a firmware udate so far, other than the one fixing the random image deletions.

they had stated that it would be coming to SL3 when the camera came out, but the new IBIS needed to update the calculations.

If I remember correctly, Leica said that for SL2 but not SL3.

Or the S5ii which works with hand-held shooting ( within limits 😉

I believe you, but for my education, could you please point me to the source. Thanks.

I think it was never officially stated. But I remember when some folks were at Wetzlar for the launch that it was asked and implied that it could come in the future. See:

Curiously, Leica hasn’t implemented a multi-shot mode in the SL3 although it was heavily implied by the engineers that this can be added in the future. Because the SL3 is still in pre-production, this makes sense and I hope some of the issues we are seeing will be rectified shortly.

I believe at the time there were other people reporting the same.

I agree that it makes sense to check what a camera can do before buying...

...but I also think it is important that customers tell Leica what they miss, so that Leica can make propper benchmarking and learns what is important for their customers.

Also...sometimes you develop your photography further and need /want functions, thats you didnt know when buying the equipment.

Yes, that is what I remember, too. However, there is a huge difference between "it could come" and "it would come." Unlike SL2, Leica has never said it would come for SL3.
