FWIW. I use the desktop app, SD Card Formatter to run an Overwrite Format ( full format) on my Sd Cards [...]

Been doing the same in quick format mode for 10+ years with all my digital cameras on all my SD cards but each time i say this on the LUF there are good people teaching me that i did it wrong so i won't repeat it here... oops i did it again, was stronger than me sorry 😄

Yesterday during a shoot, my M11 (v 2.1.1) locked up a few times. This hadn't happened since 1.6.1 so came as a surprise. I sent an email to Leica customer support with details.

Hi there - that's not good - were you shooting quickly? Nice to have the details here too.

Nothing too helpful as the freezes were apparently random. I was shooting the (coded) 21SEM, DNG+JPG, no user profile, single shot, AWB, auto lens detect, using the same Sandisk UHS-II card I've used since the M11 came out, no EVF and no live view. The freezes happened when starting up the camera, red LED light stays on while the frame lines don't light up.

Have you reformatted the card since you updated the firmware?

and only on startup - not after shooting - not after wakeup from sleep? Sorry to sound like the third degree - I'll pass it on to QA directly

I think so - but I guess it could have been a freeze after a shot which I failed to notice until I would start up the camera for the next shot. i didn't pay attention as I was focusing on my subjects! I never rely on sleep - switch on and off all the time.

Thank you for helping out!

It’s been about a week since the update and the main issue i was experiencing before which was the corrupted files on the SD card hasn’t happened on either my m11-p or my m11m.  I’m using the same cards as before which I reformated after the firmware upgrade and so far not a single issue so i’m hoping this mean these issues are gone for good.

I was experiencing the issues shooting both DNG to SD card first or DNG to both SD and Internal with corrupted files on the SD card or an altogether unrecognizable card error.  My workaround was to shoot only using internal which worked but i’ve since reenabled shooting on both without issues after a few thousands shots.

Some time has now passed since the 2.1.1. update came out and many images were made since. For those who had a M11 with freezing and file corrupting issues, please post your personal experience on whether the new firmware has solved them. Looking forward for your inputs and hoping for the most positive outcome!

My M11 (Feb 2022 Prod) only had occasional freezes on FW2.0.2. (No freezes with FW1.6.1)
It froze less often than the M10M I had for three months a few years ago... So far I've not encountered a freeze since updating to FW 2.1.1 and I've certainly tried provoking one. I would say fixed but not a definitive YES yet.

FIXED:
The occasional image corruption has been solved for me.
JPG sharpening settings are now honoured for every image (DNG and JPG)

NOT FIXED:
Auto ISO shutter speed conditions settings are still not fixed. Camera uses a shutter speed that is always faster than the speed selected in settings. Either those set in relation to focal length used, or manually selected speeds. Example, selected minimum speed set to 1/250sec, but camera will not select shutter speeds below 1/320sec. The camera is capable of setting shutter speeds and ISO values in 1/3 stop increments. So no excuse here.

This shouldn't be the case - have you tried reformating the cards in the camera (or your computer)before using them?

Yes, I did. Today I tried a bigger UHS I card size and it now seems to work properly again. Thanks for your answer.

What was the size of the card that did not work?

Strange message of the M11-P saying that "Only UHS-II cards readable" (link). Never seen this on my M11 with UHS-I cards so far. Did anyone get that message too? Any other glitch related to UHS-I cards under firmware 2.1.1? Just curious.

With the previous firmware, my camera rarely had any issues; it did freeze, but very seldom. With the new one, it hasn't frozen yet, but I haven't used the camera extensively yet. I can say it looks promising. :)

Sorry to report that I had my first glitch today. I took four or five photos within a few minutes when the camera suddenly became unresponsive when I pressed the shutter button for the next photo. The red LED remained on and the power switch had no effect. Had to take out the battery after which the camera worked without any further problems.

Bring on the next firmware version please ...
