I've attempted a synthesis of everything in this thread, and I think we are on to a winner!

Except it still has the red logo, which ruins the discreetness.

If you press the ninth button on the left it goes into stealth mode.

Yes, I am trying to track down that comment "from the horse's mouth."

It may have been in the live-streamed M11 introduction event - and I'm not sure where a video of that is (if any).

This was mentioned in Leica Tech Talk: A Legend Reinvented. Discover the Leica M11 (56:40)

that new M12 protoype on Leica Rumors looks a bit simpler...

though i am confused, more then ever : will in a week from now an M11-D be announced, or an M12 ?  i hope for the former !

The predictions on Leica Rumors are a bit vague at the moment. Potentially a much larger screen on the back, possible elimination of the three buttons currently to the left, and removal of the ISO dial. Hinting at screen only operation from the back.

What jumps out at me is the reduced - by 3mm - height of the new camera. This would finally bring it down to the dimensions of an M2/3/4/6. If they could get the screen flush instead of protruding, as it has on every digital M so far, they might be onto a winner.

To me it looks more like a CL/TL successor than a new M model

+1. Cannot be an M if it has no M mount. I would vote for a full frame CL or TL as well . Or a kind of stylized Sigma FPL with a rounded shape Visoflex instead of the Sigma's lateral EVF. Too bad for the EVF-M idea but TL lenses could be used in crop mode i guess...

My wish is simple:  Make the M12 an M camera, not this abomination which would be best referred to as a typ 701 with a thyroid condition:

https://leicarumors.com/2024/05/09/breaking-first-leica-m12-camera-rumors.aspx/#more-93461   (Please note that this is dated May 9, not April 1).

Well, true - because the picture IS a TL. It's just being used as an example of what their "information" implies.

Quoting the paragraph just above the picture:

"The large screen means also removing most (all?) buttons from the back of the camera – maybe we will get a touchscreen interface similar to the Leica TL:

(picture of TL screen)"

🤪 Bit late for April 1. But as my Leica rep used to say just before announcements, "You just never know......... 😉 "

I took this as a joke since there is no way Leica would butcher its golden eggs. However, companies have been known to do stupid things. Well, if this is the direction, then the Leica M11-p would end up being the last Leica camera I bought.  If I wanted something they are describing, I would have bought the Hasselblad X2d instead.  Also, it is amazing how often people clamoring for the Fuji hybrid viewfinder.  Fuji does not make any rangefinder camera.  I believe that sometimes people get confused about that.  Furthermore, to make the RF viewfinder into a hybrid viewfinder might be a technical challenge that is not feasible  . . .

I cannot imagine that being an M12 as it has too many changes when compared to M11.
However, that could be an EVF based M mount camera. If Leica decides to remove the most essential element of Ms (rangefinder), they could add all kind of “modernizations” to the new body, starting with a clean slate instead of a traditional M body.

The thing with Leica is, they have a real skill in unveiling new M cameras that are desirable. 3mm shorter sounds really nice to me. The potential loss of the ISO wheel less so. But what do I know? I bet if they do that, they'll have an elegant solution.

There is mention of perhaps some sort of additional adjustable dial on the top-plate. Could they re-purpose the manual frame counter of the M2, make that the ISO dial?
