With the Leica circular lens hood costing £200,and also out of stock, can anyone recommend a similar less expensive hood? i really like the look and shape of the LEICA circular hood so anything close to that available from third parties?

thanks

shane

Do note that you can only use a pinch lens cap with the Leica circular hood or other Chinse 49mm knockoff hoods.  The nice round "over the lens" Leica lens cap will not work.  I feel that it changes the look of the Q3 in a bad way.

I have this one for my Q2 (and now Q3):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BB6WJ2T5/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0BB6WJ2T5&pd_rd_w=rWpp7&content-id=amzn1.sym.f734d1a2-0bf9-4a26-ad34-2e1b969a5a75&pf_rd_p=f734d1a2-0bf9-4a26-ad34-2e1b969a5a75&pf_rd_r=XVXAFD7X59CYK2H4Y89G&pd_rd_wg=ITYnP&pd_rd_r=fdc96f86-59fb-4912-8c62-74d3e510471e&s=photo&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw

It's a little less tight than the OEM Leica one, but still very snug so there's no chance of it falling off.  The red felt inside the cap is also a nice look.

Just to reignite this thread, if I want to use filters often, what is the best option allowing for my fat fingers to get to the lens and take off the filters and change etc?

As I replied in another thread: Overgaard's ventilated shades.  Two downsides: price and lots of criticism about delivery, customer service, etc.  Mine arrived in 7-10 days.  Maybe I was lucky!

Ahh ok I think I have seen that in the past possibly. Didn’t he do a bright red one? Thanks for that 👌 I think a round hood might have to be the way to go this time. I like the design of the original but it’s not very practice and I don’t really like the big cap either

Red, matt black, black paint, silver, safari green and brass!

Red Dot Cameras also sell a 3D printed replacement hood cap, see here:

Quick question regarding the official circular lens hood for the Q3 (19657) : is the lens hood mounted via the filter thread (49mm)? Can I still add a filter on that? Wasn't really clear to me if it is supposed to replace the original lens hood w.r.t. the same mount

It mounts in the same way as the original hood. You can install filters as you normally do.

I bought the JJC round lens hood, and putting on/removing the lens cap is a constant fight. It looks nice and functionally it is well-designed: once it is on, the caps is very secure; but there are only grooves on the outside (c.f. Canon lens caps) and even my little finger will not fit in the space. I have decided to go back to the OEM hood and use an Otect cap.

I use this neoprene cover which fits over the hood or in this instance filter and Lens cap and squishes into pocket no problem

Update: I alternate between the OEM hood and Otect cap and the JJC cap without the hood. The nice thing about this latter lens cap is that I can attach it to the LF lug by means of the thin cable provided, so I dont lose it, though I confess that having it dangling is sometimes a little annoying. (Another 1st world problem!)
