Given the short time that you have the camera, it should be exchanged, not repaired.

I began to set up the camera yesterday, working through menus and adjusting user profiles.

Twice during this session (while camera was plugged into USB-C), I experienced freezes.

The first one resulted in the camera showing a solid grey screen with green text that said to turn off camera and restart. There was nothing I could do to turn off the camera with the switch. I had to remove the battery.

The second freeze happened during an auto shutoff - camera froze with Leica logo on screen.

Both freezes resulted in a loss of all saved user settings.

I suspect that a firmware update will be soon forthcoming based on numerous reports as above.

No freezes here.

BUT

I shoot in hybrid mode, and lots of images are extremely warped, (so the ss was above 1/2000) even with static images. Almost never had that on the Q2.

And my shutter speed never won't go above 1/8000, even in electronic mode. So no 1/16000 or so.  With the q2 this went seamlessly...

Got my first freeze.  Firmware 1.1.0.  Got stuck on the "auto power off" screen.  Was a full battery, went down to 60%.  Camera was warm to the touch.  Only fix was a battery pull.  I submitted a bug report to leica at info@leica-camera.com (if there is a better way to submit a report, please let me know).

I have had 5 freezes requiring a battery pull in the first week, the most recent was on the shutdown screen like this.  I walked away after I turned it off and came back around 20mins later to realise it wasn't off, the red Leica logo was still on the screen and the camera was very warm.

This is my first Leica purchase and I'm very disappointed, this is by far the least reliable camera I have ever owned while at the same time being the most expensive.

The most noticeable freeze in when  shutting down the Q3...the red Leica logo just sits there on the screen and never really turns the camera off.  I had two or three other freezes but will have to pay more attention to the situations in which they occur.  Changing SD cards makes no difference at all...from Sandisk Extreme Pro 300MB/s SDXC 10 to Lexar 2000x 300MB/s V90.

Still a great camera...they'll fix it!!

Have been shooting in Boston for the last three days. Freezes have mysteriously stopped…not a one…even shutting down. Go figure!!

Have you tried a different memory card?  I use Lexar.  2000x.  No problems here…. yet.

Firmware 1.1.0

when you check your foto’s through the EVF and turn the thumbwheel to enlarge and then take you eye from the EVF and look at the backside LCD the foto looks flat and widened, unnatural, especially with faces. Also the other way around. When you take a picture and look at the backside LCD everything is fine, but again when you enlarge the picture by turning the thumbwheel and you look through the EVF the picture looks thin and long, unnatural, and again especially faces. Hopefully this is a firmware matter and this can be corrected.

Greetings,

Klassika.

This bug has been adressed now with firmware 1.2.0, thank you Leica.

Greetings and have a nice weekend,

Klassika.

That sucks. I had a similar looking issue with a M10 after around 10 month. Leica exchanged sensor and electronics FOC. Took roughly two weeks, but I live in Germany. Service was sublime throughout the process.

With such an issue within the first 6 Month I would expect a new camera.

1st lockup since I've had the Q3.  FW1.2.  During this evening while taking interior shots with MF.  After one shot the rear screen turned black, camera completely unresponsive.  Aperture indicated f1.0.  Turned the cam off then on again, everything was normal.  I continued.  Anyone else experience this?  Just curious.

Didn't have any issues with 1.1.

Bob

  • 7 months later...

I just had my brand new Q3 freeze when I turned it off. Screen stayed on but no buttons functioned, including on/off. Pulled the battery and reinserted it and it's back to normal. This seems like a problem that people were having last year, but obviously it wasn't solved. I'm not sure how to report it to Leica. Please provide suggestions and/or link. Thank you.
