It’s a shame Leica kept that horrendous and obnoxious chunky white font on the front. Another good reason to wait for a -S variant

Nothing a little black paint can't fix. Or tape. At least for me, the aesthetics of these options aren't any worse than the chunky white script...

Wouldn't it have to have the chipset necessary to do it? In which case why would they cripple it and then unlock it with firmware as mentioned in the article?

I really hope the new SL3 will have native ISO 64( like the M10) and not Iso 100 like the Q3

Unless it's causing stability issues and needs some refinement perhaps? Could be some bugs that need to be ironed out.

**sorry, replied to the wrong message -  I was referring to Leica leaving out the content authentication at the launch of the S3 with intent to enable it later via.a firmware update.

Likely some issues there, yes... If so, this is in contrast to the introduction of SL in 2015. Firstly, the SL came as a suprise for many/most of us. But more important, the body was fully operational - without glitches as far as I recall - from day one. Certainly my body was fully working at the introduction on 20 Oct 2015.

Q3 has native base ISO of 50. Also Dpreview stated this.

Leica doesn't mention ISO 50 being native ISO of the Q3. you can manually set the ISO to 50 but that doesn't mean it's the native ISO of the sensor. The M11 has a base ISO of 64, which is stated by Leica in the tech sheet. pretty sure they would mention that for the Q3 if it were the case. Base ISO for Leica Q3 is 100.

Oh God no! The original SL was busted beyond all recognition. For starters TTL flash just didn't fire if the shutter speed was between 1/60 and 1/200th second. But manual was OK except for two shutter speeds around 1/40. I had back and forth emails with Leica about it for weeks. The 24-90 would front focus at certain distances but not all. You couldn't zoom in on review images if you selected DNG only. I'd have to dig up the full list of bugs but there were many.

Mr Kaufmann *leaked* a blurry photo of the camera sitting on his desk, about two months before the release.

Yes, when you mention it... There were problems with SL601 and SL24-90, sometimes you got black corners on the wide end. It was later corrected by FW update. I was not aware of the flash problems (I didn't use flash at that time...).

This morning I had the chance to test the SL3 at the photo store in Lausanne. The body is really well dimensioned (less width and a fatter grip). The additional wheel on thee left hand side is quite handy. I also loved the tilting screen which felt really solid. The autofocus was definitely faster with all the lenses I tested it with (including the slow Summilux-SL. 50mm). I need to choose what I am going to sell to fund this purchase...

So Pierre, with the SL3 having less body width and the grip being fatter did you experience the infamous Sony knuckle sandwich with any of the lens barrels?

Thanks.  Can we ask what that left hand wheel is set for by default?

Why?

The Fotos app link over BT works very well and has low battery consumption.

A dedicated GPS can take a long time to link to satellites at a time (10-15min if you  have not linked before ) and be tasking on the battery

I don't have the same confidence when pairing my phone's GPS to the SL2.....It disconnects once it goes to sleep and reconnecting to the satellites is a hit or miss affair after the reconnection starts.  Maybe it is an Android issue.

I personally like "clean" design, SL2 and Q2 both layout and design compared to 1st gen, is the best for me.

Exactly

The condition of your aramide fibers is still in good condition.  Mine started to fray after one year of use 😩

No, it shows up when you use "Vivid Colors" in the jpg-menu. But no user knows it, because you are normaly behind the viewer ... have a look :)

On the other hand, why would Auto-ISO use 100 instead of 50 as the lowest ISO?

Also, P2P measurement shows lowered PDR at ISO 50 vs ISO 100.

I never bothered with ISO 50. Has anyone any experience with ISO 50 vs 100?
