Gigamesh Posted September 18, 2022 Share #181 Posted September 18, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, I've learned a lot through the years reading upon this forums comments regarding leica lenses (R system), cameras and issues. A couple of months ago I decided that I'll jump on the M-wagon. I bought the M11 new from store and the Noctilux 0.95 used. Happy with the setup and all until a couple of days after I got the camera. The camera freezes. The freezing is such that when I press the shutter it will not respond, then when I press the menu button the menu will not appear and if I hold down on the shutter, it will take a shot but after 1-2 seconds. I have to shut down the camera with the on/off switch and it will work again but just until a couple of shots and thereafter it will do this again. So I thought this is random happening until one day I started the camera on shutter speed 1/500 and the error appeared directly, it was the same type of error happening as before. Previously I thought the error came from software error or whatever when I switch from LV or change settings or whatever it would be (tired to justify the error with exhaustion). So if I don't want the error, I shoot with shutterspeed on Auto. If I want to reproduce the error, I just switch to 1/500 and the error will appear directly, every time. And the error is continuous even if you change the shutterspeed from 1/500 to whatever, until you turn off the camera, change the shutter speed from 1/500 and turn the camera on again, trying to avoid 1/500. My fellow M11 owners that have the freezing or not, could you please try and see if you have the issues that I have? Startup the camera on ISO A, SS 1/500 and try take a picture. I might add that the error persists into continuous shooting mode and all the other shooting settings. If its taking a picture then it will not take it directly when you press the shutter, it will be delayed and shoot continuous for like 3-4 seconds and just stop without you having any finger on the shutter. M11 Aluminum body, Latest firmware, with/without external memory, both coded (Noctilux 50mm f0.95) and uncoded lens (Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultron v.2) I plan on calling the store I bought the camera from tomorrow to get a refund or something except sending the camera to Leica for weeks or months and being without gear for that period. We'll see if that works out. Thanks for reading!

Just tried this with no problem at all sorry. Did you try UHS-I (not UHS-II) memory cards? Just curious as i have the feeling they cause less problems. I cannot explain why, just that i have no issues with them.

Gigamesh Posted September 19, 2022 Share #191 Posted September 19, 2022 For your information; it's not going to be refunded. It will be the eternal send to Leica back and forth business... Do you guys know how long the service time is for fixes like this at Leica? weeks? months?

Could take weeks but you are not compelled to get the body repaired in any way. I would ask for a replacement unless you got a rebate for a repaired body. There is no legal duty to do that AFAIK but i don't know your local legislation.

Just checked this legislation up, the store or Leica has 2 chances to get it right, thereafter it will be decided whether to replace the product or not. Refunding seems to be very difficult. Refunding seems to be very difficult. I would have thought that replacement can be claimed on a legal basis but I don't know your law. On amicable basis, Leica may check the body and decide to replace it afterwards but they reserve the right to make a repair instead if they wish so. I would ask for a replacement if I were in your shoes but others may prefer to have a repaired body. Edited September 19, 2022 by lct

Just checked this without SD card, just internal memory, similar behavior. No crashes but the display remains black after certain shots (auto preview is set to 5secs). Also contacted customer care in Germany. No response yet.

Gigamesh Posted September 20, 2022 Share #199 Posted September 20, 2022 Also I feel that my unit freeze more often if it wakes up from standby mode several times rather than no standby mode, but the latter will of course drain the battery. I think the whole issue might be something with the memory buffer being overflown after standby is turned on/off all the time. Probably due to the light metering being on the sensor and its on all time. Many "might", "probably", "i think" and "feels".. just some thoughts

At the moment i stopped shooting which is similar to your workaround 😉
