Had the opportunity to snap a few shots after work, unfortunately it's bad weather and it was freezing cold, so nothing special.
All of these were shot on f1.5 and M10 and I have to say: This lens feels like a mini Distagon (had the lens for three years), it's impressive how sharp it is and it seems to have less purple fringing to me but I'm not a lens expert for sure.

These are beautiful. I really didn’t want to like this lens because of the ridiculously useless 0.5m close focus (only shoot film), but damn the rendering is nice… it’s in Summilux/Distagon territory for sure in terms of rendering…

Thank you! And I know exactly what you mean - I wanted to have less gear and now the most interesting 35mm (to me) comes around the corner. I also wanted a compact, fast (below f2) 35mm with modern rendering without Leica price and this lens seems to be the real deal.

I have to admit that I don‘t get below the 0.7m mark when shooting through the rangefinder because my finger automatically stops at 0.7 - 0.9m somehow - my finger position on the focus tab is the same as on other lenses I own(ed).
For below 0.7m you have to move further to the left and luckily I‘m not doing this because it feels wrong to me.
Still: A little bump would be helpful and more secure!

Could someone please confirm that it is optically inferior to the Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4? 🤔 Would save me about 1k bucks… 😁

As said: I used the Distagon before for three years and I still think that it‘s probably the better lens optically (only sharpness). If the Distagon is 100%, the new Voigtländer is maybe 98%?

But from every other aspect (close focus, weight, size, vignette) it seems that the new Voigtländer is the better option.

To me - from just looking at the files and not pixel-peeping - I don‘t see any difference to be honest.

But wait for detailed comparisons of course! 🙂

Maybe these can help to get a feeling for the distortion / vignette. The one with the car (distortion example) is shot on f5.6 and the "tree" shot is f2.8, the other ones are on f1.5 (vignette example). They are all edited (colors) but not corrected (vignette / distortion) and shot on the Leica M10.

And as mentioned before, the whole lens rendering / the files remind me a lot of my previously owned Distagon (high contrast, sharp, micro contrasts, vignette, colors).

Due to quality and ensuing shipment issues, I have decided not to buy the Summilux 35 FLE v2. Instead I have ordered and will receive shortly the Voigtlander 35 f/1.5. Based on reviews by Fred Miranda on his site, this seems very promising. Frankly at 95-98% the performance of a 35 FLE and at 1/5-1/6 the price it’s a no brainer.

In the 3-car photo, the building wall seems to shift color to magenta on extreme sides. Is it my monitor or something else?

Otherwise, the size and weight of the lens make it a great travel companion.

Don't really see magenta as the whole photo has a tinge of red and there is some vignette, but I am not sure if any coding is applied. The Voigtlander 35 f/1.7 is best when coded as a Summicron 35 ASPH.

Would love to see some hi-res samples.

I snapped a few portraits today on a walk - all of them were shot on f1.5. I did my standard procedure in post but kept away from the sharpness slider and didn't fix either the vignette nor the distortion. I also didn't crop the images, so they are in full resolution. All of them were shot with the rangefinder and the close-ups are at 0.7m.

I uploaded some here in my dropbox for better resolution:

Okay dang this might be a keeper. It really does have a Distagon look to it; no busy background bokeh that can (sometimes) happen on the FLE, and has a pop to the images (the first and last image here!).

one question: can you take a photo of the lens on the camera from the top down, with and without a hood, if possible?

Yes, the rendering is very similar, no busy bokeh, sharp, pop, ... and sure, there you go!

Considering its size, this seems to be a solid performer!

Nevertheless, wide open it does not seem to be tack sharp, which appears to be consistent with the spherical aberration glow (?) apparent from Fred Miranda's test, see the photo of the "building window in front of my househttps://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1784972/3

Don't remember this from my Zeiss 35 Distagon, but would have to check.

Considering how many people want a film like look from digital cameras, and how film is often just a bit softer than high res digital, and considering how popular diffusion filters are, a bit of organic softness is likely a selling point for a lot of folks. Especially for taking pics of people, tack sharpness isn’t always desirable. Minor softening is super flattering and combined with a higher contrast lens coating can create a really nice look like the recent images shared here.

No offense but people will put 4k euros on a Leica lens reissue (the steel rim), which will be consider as bad for any over brand at 1.4... But it's some "beatifull glow" because it's a Leica lens ;)

I assume this CV will sharpen quickly when closing (it looks pretty good at 2 and great at 2.8 on FM review).

No worries, I only have to justify the about 380 g of my Zeiss Distagon... 😁

An expected result as it does not have a floating lens element design like the Leica 35 1.4 FLE / FLE II or the Zeiss 35 1.4.

The benefit for some will be what they consider a more natural and desirable rendering wide open.

i have the nokton and love it.  Regarding the close focusing...don't get the complaint.  Surely one knows if you're focusoing too close and can take a tiny step back. This is specially obvious if you're focusing is not aligning...take.a.step.back.

It's like a car that can drive above to 270 kn an hour.  99% of people will never go that fast....but it's there if you needed, happen to hit a circuit, or want a fast way off a cliff.
