Well, the OP was on her way out, but she kept getting her inbox flooded with more and more comments - I didn’t anticipate that my original post would result in >100 responses, when all I was thinking about was an innocent debate amongst the grownups around Sony and Leica (shouldn’t have mentioned that sensor though!).

And, as a 72 year old, whose only been taking photographs for about 60 years, I’m very flattered to be called a ‘troll’ - I’ll have to check in with my son to find out if that’s a complement.

to hdmesa and lct I’d say this: Oh I do so agree. Stop pesky newcomers starting threads about stuff that causes upset; but why only 50-100 posts? Why not simply close the whole forum off, so only those who are ‘on message’ are permitted to post?

So, as I said, I really am out of here, but if anyone can recommend a Leica forum where topics are discussed by grownups, then please let me know!

Cheers,

Jobetim

Being called a "troll" is not a compliment, though I believe I called it "troll-posting", which is not labeling the person, rather the behavior.

Limiting new users from starting threads on a forum is a common practice. No need to be overly dramatic about it. Had such a limitation been in place here, you would have likely found numerous other threads you could join in on, since 1.) a lot of people have shot/do shoot Sony (and post about it), and 2) lots of people expect magic to come from their gear instead of their mind (and post about it).

Saying "help me find a forum of grownups" is childish. Notice I am not calling you, a 72 year old, a child. I'm saying your statement was childish. In any case, there is probably not another forum on the Internet with a more "aged" user group than this one short of medical forums for things that afflict us folk that are past middle age.

It's a good number IMO. This way posters have the time to know the forum and its rules. I second this idea but it is not in force for now.

Any new member can hijack a thread without starting a new thread. I do not see a point in such a restriction.

It would be less easy for trolls to start new threads this way. Good idea to me but YMMV.

Embarrassing isn’t it. 72 year old lady being made to feel pushed out.

I did not notice the OP was a lady but she is younger than me so i feel free to confirm what i said above and was not directed at her BTW.

On the forums where I have seen it used, new users are encouraged to become participants and valuable members of the forum before being able to start threads – a small ask to give a minor commitment. It's not just to keep troll posting down, but it's to encourage participation versus collecting an answer to a question or two before bouncing out for good.

It is better to live with an occasional troll, and I don't regard OP as a troll than to discourage new members from joining. This forum is a good place for Leica owners to find help with their cameras. They can do that with their first post, where they can ask about their problem.

Plenty of existing threads in which to ask questions. In any case, maybe the trolling will die down after the M11 has been out a while.

Honestly, when you started the thread, i love it, not just because i feel exactly what’s in my mind bout the M11 but i expected a more matured discussion about its facts and everything

The OP did just that, if you check her brief posting history.  She first asked about a FW issue in an existing thread.  And then started 2 threads, one relating an unfortunate service experience and one asking advice about some old Leica lenses in her family. Hardly trolling.

If true that the OP is not trolling, then it's just unfortunate that they used almost every Leica trolling template in a single post:

  • Leica is no better than Sony.
  • Monochrome sensors are no better than photos converted from a color sensor.
  • Leica M primes are no better than pro zooms.
  • Leica M primes are no better than other brand M primes.
  • Leica M cameras are very expensive with no real difference when compared to other cameras.
  • No comparison photos.

Did I miss any? Not even going to get into the age and gender being brought up, both of which are completely irrelevant here.

The more common templates for trolling usually involve non-owners of the gear in question linking-to videos or tests posted by others online, but those efforts are more easily debated since there is actual substance. Switching to first person experience without providing evidence makes it difficult if not impossible to discuss.

The only obvious troll in this thread IMO, ‘Vinncent’, was banned…again…thankfully.

Not surprising a known troll would show up in a thread like this. Like I said, if the OP is genuine, then it's just an unfortunate coincidence that they managed to weave together almost all the Leica M trolling points in a single, coherent post.
