The Sigma fp L would go to Kolari Vision in the first place as i use M lenses mainly but  it is pretty well the camera i would choose to replace the CL if the next Leica SL is not compact enough for my taste. I have no experience with the fp L though.

Hello!

On the official l-mount site, only one aps-c camera is listed for now, the Leica CL. Sigma is releasing at lot of aps-c primes and a 16-28 zoom. I can understand this when Nikon, Canon, Sony and Fuji is releasing a lot of aps-c cameras. But why would they sell these lenses in l-mount. There have been Rumors of a Panasonic aps-c camera, but I guess it is no more likely than a CL2. If Panasonic releases an aps-c camera, it should have Ibis and tiltable screen. And ability to load it with your cell phone charger pluss acsess to the 1/4" screw without taking off a handgrip. But anyway I am so pleased with Tl lenses  (I own everyone except for the 23mm) and the the CL. I will keep my equipment, I think there is a chance we will be surprised... Especially when the big camera companies now seams to refresh their aps-c line-ups.

Hallo,

I bought one of the last available Leica Cl bodies at the Leica store in Wetzlar today.Letting the sales person know that I am not at all pleased to be left alone with 2 Cl bodies and their complete TL lenses line up after the discontinuation of their APSC line the sales person told me that Leica is listening to their customers and that they have started working on a solution. He mentioned a full frame camera with an L- Mount in the size of the Leica Q 2. The downside is that it will most likely take Leica Camera AG 3 to 4 years to complete such a camera as he let me know. The sales person also mentioned that I should not nail him down on his statement. Just wanted to inform the community know about this possible development.

Hallo, Given that such a camera would indeed take 4 years to design / develop to prototype ... How would a mere Leica sales person be party to a Leica AG's likely very confidential plan ...  Sounds a little bit "hmmmm" ??? 

And ... BTW ... Today I ordered a CL/TL 18mm combo from Leica Mayfair for which I specified my desired colour ... and it's being shipped from Wetzlar ... so likely more than a few available

Hi ,

a Leica sales person at the Leica store at Leitz Park in Wetzlar might have better contacts to Leica development personnel in Wetzlar and Munich than a Leica sales person at the Mayfair store in London. Don´t you think so?

Some Leica Cl´s with a kit lens are still available in some of their German Leica stores but not many single bodies.I also called their Frankfurt store and they only had a single Paul Clarke body left.The sales guy there told me that they have sold many CL bodies since mid of May.

I just wanted to let CL Users know what I have been told today by an " insider". Believe it or not.

But the Q2 is heavier and bulkier than the CL, it would be no CL2. 
 

And 4 years to wait. At this point they will likely lose customers. They could rebadge a Panasonic as an interim but somehow that feels just wrong in too many ways. There might have been enough to keep me on board if Leica were to have made public their roadmap to a small lightweight FF camera and offer a CL2 in the meantime based on a few upgrades.

If Leica really wanted to release a CL2, I’m sure they could do so in less than 4 years. Surely they’ve done some work on a CL2 in the last 5 years and possibly have even built a prototype before deciding it wasn’t viable for whatever reason. If Leica does plan a FF L-mount in 4-5 years, I think it makes even more sense to release an APS-C CL2 in the interim if only to keep interest in the L-mount alive.

All non-rangefinder L mount Leica FF ICL mirrorless cameras have an APS-C mode ... so any can be used with TL lenses ... and future smaller footprint FF L mount bodies with larger sensors = adequate CL replacements ... so likely no need to design another purely APS-C L mount body. During The Leica Society's November 11 2021 visit to Leica Duke Street we were advised by Leica UK management , "The future is full frame mirrorless ... with GPS"  And such a camera(s) has likely been under development for many months if not several years ... all Leica ICL mirrorless cameras must be under continual development not least because of advances with EVF technology developed by e.g. Epson.

CL users seeking alternative sanctuary in a full-frame camera are disinclined to suffer a bigger, bulkier, more expensive, and heavier camera body for long. It would be a least desirable choice.

His answer was that Leica will continue to service/maintain all TL/CL cameras and TL lenses for 6 years until mid of May 2028.

Good to know thanks but this does not alter duration (2 or 3 years) nor starting point (date of purchase) of statutory and product warranties.

Unless Leica will continue making and selling the CL there's going to be a gap, starting when stocks dry up and this new FF camera being available. It's as if Toyota said, no more gas cars, we've stopped making them. We'll be back in a couple of years with an electric one. In the meantime, feel free to buy a pick up. Oh wait, isn't that what Ford did.
