Louis Posted February 19, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2022 Have fun, dear Jaap and be careful. My wife and daughter are skiing in Utah, but I preferred to stay in the sunny Florida. I already broke one shoulder and one wrist in skiing and I think this is enough for me. All my life I practiced martial arts, but never broke anything; but I find skiing much more dangerous as you can't control the ski boarders bumping into you! I grew up in Switzerland and started skiing at 8; I think its time for me to have a rest now!

Rona!d Posted February 21, 2022 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Have fun, jaap! Most dangerous part of skiing are the other skiers who overestimate their skills. Second dangerous part of skiing is overestimate your own skills. Avalanches come third and have to do with problem #1 or #2. So far I made it safely for > 50 years of alpine skiing. Trying to avoid others and not come in their way. The second problem I had some years ago when I overstressed the safety release system of the binding of my racing skis (which already were setup tight). At higher speed (> 80 km/h and still not in trouble - clear piste too) I lost a ski and had the free flight of my life and looked like a Yeti. I wasn´t sure what had happen and why I was falling. I had my GoPro on the rucksack filming the rushing landscape and dust of snow behind me and when I watched the video in slow-motion I found out a ski binding must have opened due to a highspeed bump or so. My body position was normal for the next 20-30 mtrs but behind me I saw one of my skis. Then fate took its course 😉 Had many gardian angels for sure and at my age it´s a good idea not to tighten the release system any further but to drive slower. p.s. NEVER wear a GoPro on your helmet (think of Schumacher), in case of trouble the camera will split your helmet. Always wear it with a chest harness or on your rucksack (depending on the direction you want to film).
