steveBK Posted January 14, 2022 Share #23 Posted January 14, 2022 M12, here we go.. I'm gonna swing for the fences boys: * Phase detection on-sensor allowing focus confirmation in OVF * Bring back the M5 form factor with the vertical strap hang * New chonky M5 body leaves room for an IBIS implementation * Return of video with an 8K at up to 30p mode, which will actually be useful with IBIS * Improved accessory EVF for all that video recording * Go crazy with all the grip/viewfinder accessories ala Sigma fp to extract as much margin as possible

Also M5 form factor gives a lot of opportunities. They can do the 2 lug version, then after uproar release the 3 lug.
Datsch Posted January 18, 2022 Share #26 Posted January 18, 2022 I just wanted to be on record as the first person writing the words M12-D .... 😂 But seriously, for the vanilla M12, I vote for replacing the D pad with a little joystick a la SL2 -- we need to reclaim the thumb space lost by the ever-enlarging screen sizes. raizans Posted January 18, 2022 Share #28 Posted January 18, 2022 Mostly carrying things over from my M11 wishlist: No brightness sensor mucking up the top plate. Dot is black or silver chrome to match the body. Combined shutter speed + ISO + EV compensation dial like the Minolta CLE and Zeiss Ikon. 100mp sensor??? 16-bit RAW? Thinking about Ctein's old article lately: https://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2009/02/why-80-megapixels-just-wont-be-enough.html IBIS. Sensor cleaning. Video. Full weather sealing, including updated lenses and lens mount upgrade service. I can't really think of much else at the moment.
M Journey Posted January 18, 2022 Share #29 Posted January 18, 2022 I wonder if this thread should be "SL3, your next camera" and the only wish is to add all the things from the m11 that is missing from the SL2-s and put it in a ranger finder body". Turn the M12 into a film camera with M10 specs and then all the old school M purists will be happy and all the people who secretly want a SL2 in a M body will be happy as well. M Journey Posted January 18, 2022 Share #32 Posted January 18, 2022 I can't lie. If they made a new SL3 with all the upgrades from the M11 and SL2-s plus more tech goodies, EVF, IBIS, in a M body, I would be all over it. I'm new to the rangefinder and haven't fallen in love with it so I'm ok with the EVF. I got into the M for it's lenses, rendering, size, and incognito factor over using a typically mirrorless and large lenses.
martinot Posted January 18, 2022 Share #33 Posted January 18, 2022 In addition to IBIS the M12 must also have an articulating screen.

IBIS, if possible in the same housing. But please not more Pixels! and please, before launching more new models, please focus on eliminating the crash causes of the firmware of the M10M and the M10R !! The starting topic will be this: M11 is a pretty radical departure from M10, which is a peak evolution of the full-frame digital M that started with M9. M11 does not have an internal EVF/OVF combo, nor IBIS. These are clearly two possible directions for the M to expand to. M11 still does not have video. However, the Maestro III processor and live view stabilization indicates that the processing power is there. Could it be added later via firmware, left to M12, or left out of the M line for good? For those of us with kids, taking one camera on a trip, video would be a great option to have. What else do you think will come in M12 that is not in M11 but worth waiting for? I fully agree with you. So far I am staying with the Leica M240, that provides still and video photography. The Leica M240 has a very nice sensor of 24 meg pixels made in Europe. I have preferred to invest in Summilux lenses to avoid taking pictures at ISO higner than 2000, where the M240 performs very well. I have never understood the motto"Less is More"; to me "Less is definitely less".
WvE Posted November 22, 2022 Share #39 Posted November 22, 2022 Back to simplicity please, better sensor with no more than 24MP, the rest is ballast for an M. Alternatively, issue a lower priced basic M-E version.

We haven't seen an M10-E as yet so its hard to predict wether there will be an M11-E
