I have found the black version to be very hard wearing and durable. Not sure what paint they are using but it is far superior to that used on earlier Leicas.

I have read varying opinions - some say it is better, some worse.

It is the sort of thing that would be better with more detailed explanations from Leica rather than vague statements. What is it? How was it tested? why was it chosen over other solutions? etc.

Yeah, nice try. I am sure Leica would be delighted to disclose their production secrets for others to copy!

There is an entire thread on the durability of the black paint here for a range of user feedback:

When the time comes this might be reason enough for me getting an m11

the durability of the black chrome finish on the M10x series is IMO an embarrassment to Leica, frankly a £40 aftermarket lens hood has a higher quality of anodising

Curious to know if it was the same thing. I find asking people who know a useful way to find out.
As my wife would tell you, I’m a cross between Sheldon Cooper and Mr Spock. I ask a lot of questions.
Apologies if I shouldn’t have asked.

A poster was stating  that he would not buy a M11 because he doesn't want to put his hands on plastic, as if he ignored that M bodies make use of artificial leather since the eighties. And now you're asking if artificial leather is the same thing as vegan leather. I don't mind when people pull my leg at all but i prefer knowing it before trying naively to answer.

😅😅

This is so funny how everyone takes opinions so personally and everything turns into a big fight.

Let’s all just ignore each other and that way we will never see each other’s posts 😅😅

As soon as I saw the M11 and heard Aluminum I went NOPE! and bought the M10R…

of course YMMV

I don’t like silver cameras so I wouldn’t buy silver (and this is brass. Ever seen a brassed silver Leica? 🤮) .

The black one is aluminum and it’ll be a cold day in hell when I buy an aluminum Leica M.

So there. M11 Black vs Silver is like choosing between a root canal and a colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy for me… it’s more fun

Congratulations: One month and already 275 posts. Around 10 posts a day. Or 3'650 posts a year. I wonder if you have the energy to continue with that speed.

If you don’t like the M11, and are happy with your M10R why do you keep posting here? I can only think of two reasons, and neither are good. You either think you’ve made a mistake in getting the M10R and are trying to prove to yourself that you didn’t, or you just like to create conflict.

I assumed that the finish was a coating produced by a third party rather than developed by Leica.

For example, rifles coated with Cerakote are marketed as such because Cerakote is a product that confers additional value on the rifle. It’s performance is known and appreciated.

I’d assumed that Leica bought the finish from a coating manufacturer rather than developing a one off and in that scenario, naming the coating can be a plus.

Indeed, more than keyofG and Vinncent yet. Same poster?

Also grittyphoto no? I sorta wondered that too... but the narrative's a little different and there's actually photo content

As in “I have a Leica, but the paint is from Dulux ( add your favourite paint Co. here)”

Sure, that would sell it for me!

It’s not that funny or surprising really is it?

Opinions are harmless enough.. like my sports team is better than your sports team, my record collection is better than yours, my pants are a better colour than yours. Whatever.

But if I go to a forum dedicated to your sports team to continuously state how much better my sports team is then that’s not a discussion it’s just baiting really isn’t it?

Each of us has things that are important to us RE our gear. But that doesn’t mean that everyone needs to constantly be told about which colour camera they should buy or why the Mxyz is the last of the true Ms (kinda have to wait for them to stop making them to decide that no?)

It’s a nonsense, it’s just a teeny tiny grain of opinion on a beach of sand.

Everyone’s entitled to it, everyone’s entitled to share it.

It’s just not at all surprising when no one else really cares.

That sir, is a classic snuk premise.

The reply I got from Leica this morning...

"The top and the bottom plate of the silver M11 are made from brass.

Merely the top and bottom of the black M11 are made from aluminum."

Hopefully that settles that 😆

Isn't that a fact that we know from the announcement date? Then there is the difference in weight.

What bothers me a little is that in the month I had the Silver M11, the bottom plate had a slightly different texture and feel from the top plate. Now I'm beginning to doubt myself. But yeah, great news at least that it's breath both top and bottom.
