TTArtisan 28mm f5.6

Ok for fun I took some very similar shots with my Orion 15 28mm f6 lens.  This time I did not add a border as I wanted to show the full vignette at F6!  All shots at f6.
This lens is at infinity at the hard stop, which is very nice and perhaps a little surprising given that it uses an LTM-M adapter (Fotodiox).  While the TTA 28 5.6 smears at the edges at 5.6, the Orion gets hazy.  Interesting..
But no weird color casts, which is nice as this is a lens obviously built way before digital photography was even a consideration.
This lens is made of some type of alloy, and is super light weight, about half of the weight of the brass TTA.  Honestly for all the brass fetish thing happening - of which I too am guilty - it is much more pleasant using a lighter lens! Focus is super smooth and perfectly weighted.  Changing aperture is a right royal pain in the keester.

Interestingly, this lens does not vignette anywhere this much on film!

On film, the Orion 15 shows far less vignette than on digital!

I love the look of the pre-brassed version. From the samples I’ve seen it can’t match the optics of the Leica, but for a couple of hundred bucks I think it makes a nice fun lens.

They actually don't have a pre-brassed version.  That was just to show what it could look like with use.  They mention this on their website.

I already have the real thing, the incredible Orion 15 28mm f6.

And what's about ergonomics of changing the aperture ;)
(Oops, I saw you mentioned that later, sorry ...)

Beside that it's another class regarding size too!

The Summaron isn't perfect.  The centre is stunning, the corners not, but you don't look at the corners.  If you stop it down you lose the unique look (IMHO).  I'm waiting for my black version TTartisan, I hope it approaches the Summaron, I really miss it!

Flare stress test pics with the TTA.  M7 w/ C200.  No lens hood, no filter.

I think this is a better buy for what it is than the Summaron. For what one would use it and how you’d use it, it’ll get the job done.

I thought about it too but my 28f2 Ultron II is so tiny and awesome I sort of got over it pretty quick.

Yeah, if I was logical about my lens choices I only 'need' one 28mm, not the three that I have.

Yes, logic says so.  Head and heart choices...  I do have the Matte Edition 28mm Summicron so it's not like I need another 28mm really.  More to make the camera tiny, but I have some great pics from when I had the Summaron so I hope the TTArtisan is good too.  At some point I want to try the Avenon/Kobalux 28mm, and the GR 28mm.

When did logic ever come into it? 🙂

Exactly!  And that is why I bought this lens - because in black I just love how it looks.  Bonus now is that I am loving how it performs!

Still waiting for my black lens but I too love the performance. Have you tried the  Hektor 28mm f6.3, an interesting lens.
