agfa100 Posted February 11, 2022 Share #226 Posted February 11, 2022 Well mine just showed up yesterday, so I will head out and try a few shots and see how I like it. The build quality is really nice no complaints their and I am one of those that like how chrome lenses look on black bodies. The only other chrome lenses I have are a 35 Summicron Ver 1 and a 50mm Summilux Ver 2 that I picked up way back when I started with Leica M cameras in 1971 showing my age. For digital I am using a Sigma fp easier for me to focus with the LVF which is a bit of a pain to carry, but once you put it to your eye it's so nice.
IanH Posted February 16, 2022 Share #227 Posted February 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, is there any similarity to the Summaron 28 when this lens is used on film? I’d buy this lens for my m2, but the Summaron image output look unique. The reviews normally mention the modern rendering of the TT on leica digital, but film can sometimes show a different side to the lens.
agfa100 Posted February 22, 2022 Share #228 Posted February 22, 2022 Ok I know this is not a good test on the TT Artisan 28mm f 5.6 Well I need you all to tell me if this works or not. I took a day trip to Richmond Va to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, it was the last day of the "Man Ray the Paris Years" show and I took a picture in their sculpture garden After the show I went back out and retook the same shot just different. Enjoy or not just let me know, thanks! This was shot with the TT Artisan 28mm f5.6. Shot with a Sigma fp which is how I got the multi exposure while hand holding the camera, no tripod. quietglow Posted February 23, 2022 Share #229 Posted February 23, 2022 Has anyone tried one on an M8? I have one arriving tomorrow, and I'm very keen to see how that works. I prefer the 35mm FL, I prefer to use my M8, and a prefer very small lenses. Those three things don't go together very well, so I am thinking this may offer an option for a small walkaround setup. pippy Posted February 23, 2022 Share #230 Posted February 23, 2022 I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work very well indeed. In common with most lenses the TTA 28mm performs "poorest" at the edges and corners. With the crop-factor of the M8's sensor these 'problems' cease to be an issue. Philip. Thank goodness for cats for lens "testing" (snow flying outside, wife still in meetings). Looks plenty sharp enough across the field to me. From reports, I also would have expected this shot to flare, and there is no sign of that. I did pop a 37mm B+W UV filter on it right out of the box. Welcome, dear visitor! The issue of flare seems to be quite unusual in that some seem to get it fairly easily whereas for others it simply isn't an issue. Even when I try to force my lens to flare I can't get it to play ball. Like you I also stuck a decent multi-coated UVa filter on straight away and have always used the hood. I know that many of the high-profile on-line reviews were posted before the hoods were being shipped with the lenses so, for now, I'm guessing that using a filter and the dedicated hood will be a Very Good Idea if flare is to be minimised. In terms of sharpness I must say it's performed way above my expectations. As it happens this afternoon I was printing-out some images I shot with it last week and the results are quite superb. There has been a bit of on-line chatter that the early (pre-production?) examples might not have been quite fully 'sorted' and that a certain amount of fine-tuning was implemented before the masses were given their allocation. I suppose it's a possibility. Philip. Edited February 24, 2022 by pippy

Thank you. He's usually camera shy but decided to cooperate, for once. I really do love my M8, and if I see an 8.2 for sale will certainly snap it up. I find myself going back to it despite having a MP240. Thanks for the info on the lens. I think it could replace my Elmarit 28 as my go-to hiking lens when I don't need the extra speed. I got the hood in my box, so I assume I have a later model.

NigelG Posted March 13, 2022 Share #238 Posted March 13, 2022 Just to update the thread I have been keeping this lens on the M9M. Coding set as the 28 Elmarit v3 as per "Pippy"'s post. I might look at what difference different codings make but certainly it seems to work fine and means I won't confuse the EXIF with any of my other 28s... I've found the results almost* comparable even to my 28 Cron V2 at f5.6/8 (of which I seem to have lucked-out and got a stellar copy (see other threads)) but obviously much lighter/smaller and less expensive for street/travel/casual shooting. * Pixel peeping not looking at the overall image I've got on with it enough that my hatred of changing lenses on the street has meant that I snagged another copy so I can keep one on the M9M and put one on the Edition 60 (thus breaking the "thou shalt never take a Monochrom and colour M out at the same time if thou art a true disciple of the M" commandment). I can pocket the cameras in my puffy winter jacket with ease. With the "Women's Day" 12.5% discount and free shipping - and the lack of import duties or VAT in the US it cost me $286 or £215 which is less than either of the Leica lens hoods I ordered recently from Leica Miami... I'm going to compare the supplied hood with a step-up ring + Leica Elmar hood at some point re vignetting etc. If it works out I can see this + Elmar 50 + 90MEM as a tiny "pocket" 28/50/90 set.
tom.w.bn Posted March 14, 2022 Share #239 Posted March 14, 2022 Can someone please explain the appeal of these 28/5.6 lenses compared to other small lenses like the Elmarit-M 28/2.8?

I think, at least in the case of the Summaron, it’s size, rendering and use of it for a specific purpose ie street photography or wide angled subjects/ cityscape/ landscape. I’m guessing one would have to know that specific purpose in mind before taking it out and shooting with it. Whether the rendering of the TTArtisan is of any similarity to the Summaron is being addressed in this interesting thread.
