OK . . . so what is the premium over a normal Q2 when you add the cost of accessories?  The following are current UK retail prices:

Normal Q2     4,500

Thumb support   175

Hand grip       120

Finger loop     100

Total         4,895

007 - Q2      6,750

Premium       1,855

According to the Globe Trotter website, their Attache case costs £1,395 but the Leica version looks a little larger and you get foam inserts to hold the Q2.  So let's say £1,500 the case.  The real "premium" is therefore about £355.  I still wouldn't buy it, but the extra cost is not quite as bad as it appears.

It'll be interesting to see how much serial number 007/250 sells for in a few years time.

Pete.

#007/250 was likely set aside for one of the Leica Pooh-Bahs in Wetzlar.

That would be one of the benefits that comes with a lifetime of service to Leica, which seems reasonable.  I'd rather see #007/250 go to someone at Wetzlar rather than to an obscure billionaire collector who lives in a castle.

Which sounds like a prerequisite for most Bond villains seeking world domination...

The dastardly owner of the Bond Q2 s/n 007 has been unmasked:

Well surprise, surprise. I guess Leica do know what they're doing. The edition has SOLD OUT. 😁😁

But if I see you walking down the street with one hanging around your neck, I'm still going to snicker.

Perhaps they should have released 750 like the Daniel Craig version and made even more money!  If you don't mind paying extra for the 'luggage' the 007 edition is really not that expensive.  The Daniel Craig version has a premium of £1,100 over the regular Q2 and there's no thumbs up, no handgrip, no finger loop.

If you could have the same camera in nice green leather as a special edition, without the luggage (I mean, who needs a suitcase to carry a compact camera?) and remove all the silly 007 references, then I might even buy one.

Leica is leaps and bounds better off than if they were to adhere to the, uh, "wisdom" (yeah, that's what we'll call it) dispensed in these parts.

The wishes/wants/demands for features in the M11 makes that obvious.

This thread of (largely) critical copy is running at 89 posts and counting. Just think of all those casual surfers who land here and say "My God, I wonder what all the fuss is about", then go on to look on Leica's own website. Talk about free publicity, and they've made money. Leica is laughing all the way to the bank. Good luck to them, it's no skin off my nose. (In any case, it's been going on at least since the Luxus, and probably before.)

I quite like it. I am sure they will sell out quickly, because (1) the Q2 is a great camera, (2) the style of this particular model is not only unique, but also pleasing on the eye and (3) the Bond films have their own fan-base. My camera budget is not so large that I would expend the funds on this particular model myself, so I will have to enjoy it vicariously through those that do.

Great start to your posting on the forum @lotsofbits!

I don’t really go for the 007 branding - I bought my Omega Seamaster before it graced James Bond’s wrist.  I like that watch, and it doesn’t need “007” written on it; which seems to be the main gripe with the Q2 007.

The camera itself retails for $5,500 on B&H, and the case for around $2,500 (actually, it was listed for just under 2,000 pounds) when you could get it on the Globe Trotter website, making the final price, without the unique green leather, $8,000 if you bought it all in bits; which is actually what Leica was charging for them before they all sold out.  You did get that bit?  They all sold out, so really what we might or might not think about them doesn’t really matter.

More interestingly, between them, Leica & Globe Trotter will have had to pay a pretty penny for product placement in the latest Bond Infomercial.  I hope they recovered that; but in the more imponderable magic of marketing … probably priceless.

I do like the leather.  And while the 007 branding is a bit of a turn-off, but I bet it brings new people to Leica.

For me it did. I always liked James Bond movies and I always liked Leica, actually having owned an M8 for a while (which I sold when my most photographed subject baby daughter started moving faster than I could focus). The combined forces of two positive emotions pushed me over the brink and now I want to get a real camera again.

I decided to not go with the 007, although I had the opportunity to get one. If I still like it once I have it in my hands on it, it‘s going to be a regular Q2.

Look at the Q2M.

For myself, I don’t mind spending a fair bit on an M camera and the M lenses I like, safe in the knowledge I can always use the lenses, and I have a choice of camera bodies.  My only reservation about the Q cameras is that when the camera dies (some electronic bit being the weakest link), the lens goes in the bin with it.  This is irrational, I know, but it’s the way I feel.

If a Q3MF came out - medium format sensor, with a nice fast fixed 30mm lens, leaf shutter - I’d be very tempted.  A bit like a digital SWC … very nice.  If Leica is going to match a lens to a sensor in this way, why not make it medium format, a really fabulous lens, and step away from 135mm format.

I don’t care for the Bond connection, but quite like the green color. Doesn’t seem like the camera itself has any Bond branding on it (aside the lens cap, which stays in the box anyway), so I don’t think it’s that conspicuous actually - no ordinary person will ever know what camera it is, and how much it cost. I would totally use it as I like the design, but wouldn’t pay a premium…
