I have got my MP some months ago directly from the Leica online store by putting my email down for the alert "back in stock". Even so, I missed the slot twice. Third time round,  I placed the order within 5 minutes after receiving the alert email. When I checked 20 minutes later, just for fun, it was out of stock again. So, yes it is possible to get a MP, but you would need some luck and patience.  Ps not sure how accurate this is, but I shaw an MP unboxing video a month after my purchase and the serial number was c. 300 higher. So I guess 500 might be the current batch size? Ps2 since the Nikon F6 (luckily I got a new one the year before, since the NOS prices on ebay now got crazy high) was discontinued last year, the MP/MA are the last "serious" 35mm film cameras which can be bought new, which might have increased demand even further. Since I switched back 100 % analog (photography and music) it was actually one reason to buy the MP, as I do not like to buy my stuff used.

As soon as I do not need this junk anymore for work I am back to my beloved razr dumbphone - congrats on your achievement of personal freedom

Any speculation on when the next batch will be built and shipped? I’ve had one on back order for a while. I think I read somewhere that Leica makes two batches per year?

Ask your Leica Dealer or Leica ?

Speculation of two batches a year may be obsolete.

I believe it is alternating 500 batches ongoing as specialised staff must be utilised. MPs are regularly available on an ongoing basis online, sure Leica could withholding quantities to spread it, but why should they do it, demand worldwide is still outstripping supply

I did and the answer I received from the dealer was "we don't know". I've actually found this forum to have a lot of knowledgeable members which is why I asked here.

Strange indeed !

I'd ask Leica Wetzlar directly.

How long is "a while"? It could be that there were others on the waiting list before you and the quote was already sold. It seems that the quicket way to get one is to shop around rather than order one and wait.

I saw one on sale this morning. NIB but sold as second-hand. And a black M-A which has had one film put through it.

If you can live without a built-in meter, there's a brand new black chrome M-A in stock at Camera West:

Edit:  Looks like the Leica Store New York has one in stock as well:

Black chrome M-As seem to be easier to come by than MPs.

I think roughly about two months. Might be a bit more as I forget the exact date. I'll just keep waiting. Eventually it will have to show up sometime in the next couple years 🤣

Thanks for the info. I have considered the M-A, but I'm set on MP. I suspect I could live just fine without a meter (or use an external meter), but at this point I'm just going to keep playing the waiting game.

I put down an order for a black paint MP in July @ a local camera store and I'm still currently waiting for the order to be fulfilled. During the same time, I called up a leica store 4 hours away & put my name down on their waitlist. They told me that I was #7 on the waitlist and I haven't heard back yet.

If leica is really making one batch every two years, then my money will be tied up for 2-4 years ....

I don't know about other Countries but here in Germany the Leica Stores have MAs and MPs in stock quite regularly. No huge amounts but enough to get one without big problems. Waiting Lists are always a hell as long you don't have a way to sneak yourself at the first place. I would just check for stock personally.
