Just want to thank everyone here for helping me make that decision. I’ve read about some of your misgivings on the lens of this topic, particularly given the price. My experience is that, wide open, it is low in contrast and only “sharp” in the very center. Sharpness being a combination of resolution and contrast. Probably good that you didn’t buy it, I’ll bet that you would far prefer the CV 50 1.2 (v2), wide open it displays far more contrast than the Leica 50 1.2 and the “sharpness” that you desire. But don’t expect that to be sharp to the edges at 1.2 either. I have both the Leica 50 1.2 and the CV. The CV is easier to use, but I’m keeping the Leica, the question of whether it is worth another $6700 is very valid. These are the decisions we have to make. The CV lens is under USD $1000, you can even rent one first to be sure. I’ve rented numerous lenses to try and only actually ended up buying one. It can be a great way to scratch the itch with ample room to change your mind. Fred

And I think you are right... the CV 50 1.2 maybe what I’m after. I am most impressed with Voigtlander lately! As a side note, the funds allocated for the Leica 50 1.2 went towards an Xpan II. Thanks for your opinion.

As to the point of focus, that's it. As has been pointed out ad nauseam, when this lens is shot wide open it will not produce a tack sharp result. That's not the object. When shot wide open at MFD, the zone of focus is roughly 1/8th inch. This is obviously not the kind of image that appeals to you. To each his own. In the other photo, the white flowers are snowdrops. Of course, you already knew that. The focus was on them, not on the Blue Stars, which I'm sure you also knew. Incidentally, this thread is for images shot with the f/1.2 Noctilux, not the 50mm APO. I think the daffodil v tulip pics painted to noctilux in a good light against the APO although for a record shot of tulips in an information book the APO shot would be ok. SiOnara Posted May 7, 2021 Share #235 Posted May 7, 2021 (edited) Size comparison between the 0.95 and the 1.2 Smaller than I thought! Wide open the 0.95 is quite amazing. Sharp across the frame and a smoother out of focus rendering. The 1.2 is sharp in the centre with a slight glow. It's very nice. The out of focus rendering has more of a swirl with a more busy rendering. At f8 both lenses are almost identical! F8 really is the great leveller. These older lenses always remind me of an Pointillism painting, almost like dabs of a paint brush. I always think the modern lenses out of focus rendering disappears, whereas the older lenses become part of the photograph. Welcome, dear visitor! SiOnara Posted May 7, 2021 Share #236 Posted May 7, 2021 (edited) Not a Noctilux shot but this 50cm Summitar f2 lens always reminds me of the early Noctilux lenses. Again that background out of focus really brings the photo to life. Leica M10D - 50cm Summitar @f2 Welcome, dear visitor! 6bit Posted July 17, 2021 Share #240 Posted July 17, 2021 Has anyone compared this Lens against the CV Nokton 1.2/50mm? Would love to know how you think each renders.
