jonoslack Posted May 24, 2021 Author Share #361 Posted May 24, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Okay - quick and dirty, but I think it's quite instructive all the same The point is to look at the quality of the bokeh - in this instance I didn't have time to get tripod out, and anyway, the wind was blowing! I'm going to post several sets of 3 images each set showing 1. FLE at f1.4 2. FLE at f2 3. APO at f2 I know that @alexreiterer said he wanted to compare at F2 (so I have) but it's also instructive to see how much the increased contrast of the APO makes it feel faster than it is. So I've shown the f1.4 as well. FLE at f1.4 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! jonoslack Posted May 24, 2021 Author Share #365 Posted May 24, 2021 Final set didn't get the focus exactly on the eyes for the FLE, but if it's the bokeh you're interested in then it shouldn't make too much difference FLE at f1.4 Welcome, dear visitor! The power of the APO certainly shows on the in focus element of protected plant, but the FLE is still a good lens and looking at the top right 'silver' highlight in the hound pix. Good effort - hope @alexreitererappreciated the time you have taken!

Good effort - hope @alexreitererappreciated the time you have taken! Hah - well, to be honest I was interested myself, and the test didn't take too long. I think it bears out Peter Karbe's assertion that the APO glass effectively rolls off into bokeh very quickly and nicely (this is why I included the f1.4 images). I might actually get a bit more serious about this and get out a tripod and EVF - Sadly in this screen shot the point of focus is different (both are at f2 despite what the exif says) What you can see though is a little green CA i the OOF are on the FLE behind the point of focus and some pink in front . . . . which is not present in the APO (which seems a lot sharper where it's in focus). Yes indeed, she's a pyrenean sheepdog and thus not vertically challenged, but she usually gets on garden tables for a better view of the world rather than the kitchen table to steal food!. However, the previous pyrenean we had often jumped on the kitchen table, normally after the butter!

Gobert Posted May 24, 2021 Share #371 Posted May 24, 2021 I think the most significant difference is the absence of purple infringement in the picture of your tree house.

wlaidlaw Posted May 24, 2021 Share #376 Posted May 24, 2021 Our labradoodle can also get up onto a table and is currently in total disgrace for having chewed up three 120 rolls of Fujichrome. Obviously did not like the taste of the first one so having given that a chew, abandoned it and went on to the next two. On the APO lens, there is something of the look of the Zeiss 35mm/f2 Planar G lens but not quite as extreme. That had a very sharp focus plateau with a really abrupt roll off into Bokeh. However the big difference is that the APO's bokeh is very pleasant against the Planar's bokeh which was less so. Wilson
alexreiterer Posted May 24, 2021 Share #377 Posted May 24, 2021 @jonoslack: Wow! What a great work. That is helping a lot. And yes the APO seams to be perfect. The bokeh of both lenses seam to be equal?!
