Takes me straight back to childhood and jumping up and down on iced puddles to create cracks!

Ah... my childhood was spent in the tropics. No snow until I was 8yrs old IIRC. Was told that it was stuff called snow and ice that was all the white stuff on top of East Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro (in Tanganika as it was in those days). Actual snow and ice came as a BIT of a surprise ...think like those videos of kittens/cats in snow for the first time.

Same here: Côte d’Ivoire then Benin until I was 10. I couldn’t understand snow burning the first time I experienced it.

A morning stroll around the home environs (South Queensferry, near Edinburgh) with the Q2M, my new best friend. Yellow filter attached.

Edit: they look much sharper as tiff files, with greater richness. Oh well, not to worry. It's still nice to share.

Experimentally I found the upload of B&W using PNG (not lossy) is not so wacky (big file sizes) as when normally compared with the same in JPG (lossy) - YMMV. Take this in the context that the forum code also performs a background pixel/size conversion so as to display 'appropriately' (lossy) within the image thread. What you see on the forum is in fact a big thumbnail preview ...so to speak. Without clicking on the image (big thumbnail preview) and expanding the image most fully then the 'displayed' image is rarely likely to meet any critical expectation. Then there's the gamma to get matched, ICC, sRGB and so on.

In summary: try uploading mono stuff using PNG files (probably one at a time given the upload size limit)

First image post, you all have created outstanding photographs, thank you for the inspiration.  My dad in his home just after a cancer treatment at hospital this week.  His wisdom to me just before I created this image, "Every day is a bonus."  Q2M, ISO200, 1/50@ f1.7, cropped 1:1.
