Thanks for the comments - appreciated. :)

Actually it is Lydiard Country Park on the west edge of that glorious metropolis also known as Swindon. ;)

Oops - I should have looked more carefully. They are a bit similar with the corner towers. Or maybe that camera and lens are just so second-rate that they make one house look like another...... 😄

Very nice images Keith! So crisp! All hand held I presume? Fantastic if you can get images like this without a tripod!

Thanks!  Yes, all hand held (with auto ISO and 1/(2f).

Wow--what a "local Country Park"!

Looks like you don't need the Hasselblad anymore.  I'd be happy to take it off your hands now that it's junk...  😉

Thanks so much for posting these beautiful photos!

Ah, 'fraid not, I've just taken delivery of ten rolls each of FP4+ and HP5+!   :)

This happened shortly after the Senate vote yesterday. I have no idea if the two events are related.

What you're looking at here is a 120% crop from the original file. This camera is amazing. As near as I could tell, this woman (UW student, I believe) was doing a video of herself using her smartphone. After this handstand, she broke into an incredible modern dance routine, then checked her phone to see how it turned out. Pretty good, I'd say.

(Who said old lenses would not work with a 40Mp sensor?!)

Are all images but the first DNG or are others JPEG as well? The JPEG you posted had solid tonality and I hadn’t even tried JPEG but it looked good.

Jaap posted this link from Roger Cicala in another recent thread.  The Appendix section addresses a common misconception regarding lens and camera resolution.

I've never paid much attention to mtf charts or comparison tests with high lp/mm. I prefer to use my eyes and IMHO images made with the M10 Monochrom fitted with the 50mm APO Summicron come closer to perfection with a 35mm digital camera than anything I've seen.

Roger explains the limitations of MTF, and the practical aspects of lens tests, better than anyone I know.  The Appendix that I referenced dispels one of the myths, and was only in response to UliWer's post regarding vintage lenses and high rez cameras.

I make pics and prints to decide what I like, not technical tests, especially not MTF, which only deals with contrast and resolution, not myriad other lens characteristics, let alone different processing workflows.  Roger would agree with that approach. And my preferences often have nothing to do with "perfection' or ultra resolution.  In fact, for night shots, I often prefer mood, 'grit' and imperfection, not ultra clean details.  The MM (or even an M8.2) and a relatively inexpensive lens suffices for many such needs. Others of course have different tastes and preferences.  Whatever suits.

We don't disagree on any of that. I wasn't stating any preference for perfection, just that this particular camera lens combination achieves it in terms of sharpness, resolution, tonal gradation, dynamic range and lack of noise. If I was hung up on perfection in my own images, I wouldn't have posted #333 in this thread. It's not sharp, but I still liked the shot.

Understood, if that's how one defines perfection using 35mm digital.

To be brutally honest, the majority of images so far are underwhelming :

Compared to the first few pages in the M9M and M246 image threads much is lacking both pictorially and with tonality.

The hardest question to ask is : how much of this is down to  - the weather; a need to post as soon as possible ;  a shift in experience levels; camera output - lack of profiles;  post processing difficulty  ?

I will not comment on content or composition. Every photographer sees a subject differently. And every photographer has their own style. But what I have noticed in some of these samples are consistently dark midtones. I suspect a slight LR or PS curves adjustment combined with a contrast boost might be appropriate for some M10M files.

I use a M9M and know how much work it takes to get the files to print to my liking. It is nice, however, to start with a slightly flat DNG file that can be pushed and pulled to taste.

FWIW: I see tremendous potential with this new Monochrom.

Hopefully no-one is getting too bored with all these views of Lydiard Country Park.  Will endeavour to make another little outing today to somewhere else and with different lenses.

Before venturing out I put my 75mm Summarit f2.5 on the M10M and took a couple of indoor shots. Both are straight out of camera large jpg's with the camera set to high contrast. Imported into LR, 'auto' clicked then into PS for resize to 2480px and the border and drop-shadow added.  Back into LR  before exporting for upload to Flickr.

I may actually use jpeg settings at times. These look pretty darn good. Would speed up the workflow for those situations that don’t require perfect editing.

FWIW, here's what I've been experiencing when posting here for the last few weeks. I use a high quality, calibrated monitor. When I finish working on an image and get it looking just right, I save for web and post here. Invariably,  the photo comes up looking too dark so I have to do an edit to delete the photo, make curves adjustments until it looks too light on my monitor, then re-post it. This only happens on this forum, not when I post on Flickr or Fred Miranda.

To demonstrate, I'm posting a shot I just took that was adjusted to look perfect on my monitor--clean whites, deep blacks and good middle tones.

I lived in Madison from the 1970s-1990s. They did this just about every year, even when there wasn't an impeachment. Also used to have Volvo races on the lake (maybe that's pre-Global Warming).
