Jackatka says "The 90 macro-elmar looks sooo nice, but it's soooo expensive"

I used to have a 90 summarit long ago and rarely brought it along because of it's size. An unused lens is more expensive that a lens that costs more but is used.

I have examined my lens usage on LR's dashboard and my 90 macro-elmar is now amortized. Initially I had tested a demo to see if I liked it and then bought new. Used ones are pricey too, which shows you how many people like the lens I guess.  So don't try a demo unless you can afford to then buy.

Jack

I've noticed the same. Used to have a Elmarit m 90. Great lens, but too big for hiking. The macro-elmar just fits in my pocket. Great lens and I use it a lot.

I didn't know Setadel people are so facetious ... 😄  even bought an item from them years ago (a Focorapid) and they seemed to me normal guys...

Setadel are questionable at best.

Leica Camera confirmed to me that it does not mark prototypes in this particular fashion (N08) and deemed this to be a fake.

Stick to the great shops / dealers like Tamarkin, or shops in Japan / Honkong (like map camera, rangefinder hk, fotopia, MK&K, all good friend camera just to name a few). You can find a lot of great small lens there and their service is always great and super friendly :)

Hmmmm... so not a single case... they are pursuing a risky biz... 🥶  ...our world is so self conscious and (generally) well informed that if one is marked as a faker or anyway a sort of crook ... can't stay for long on the market (even if changes his name... it happened in the past... but a certain " style"  is recognizable... 😎)

Small, fast and nice in M mount?

35 1.4 II Nokton and Pre-ASPH Summilux 35 1.4.

On more subjective note: Jupiter-3 Art 50 1.5 and 28/2 MS-Optics.

Personally, I see no reason to haul bricks on M bodies. My lenses are J-3, 35 1.4 II Nokton, 21/4 Color Skopar and Summarit-M 35 2.8.

Elmarit-M 28 2.8 ASPH would be nice to have, but I'm not this rich to keep focal length I'm not using. Maybe I will re-buy Orion-15 as 28mm lens. Small, cute and awesome rendering. But it is not fast lens at all :).

This thing about a small lens is very subjective and dependent on the individual.

I have quite big hands and hate focus tabs so my 35mm f1.4 distagon ,50mm v5 summicrom and zeiss 25 f2.8 are very ergonomic as i can just grip the focus ring and shoot.

If i am out with my m262 and distagon its still a much smaller package than all the SLR crop frame shooters as well as the pseudo medium format camera gang so although in leica land the distagon is big its not so large in the general photography world and its amazing in my view.

Is worth noting that the Setadel's Summilux is indeed a bit different from the standard Lux 35 Aspherical... both in the barrel and in the front element...

The most compact M mount lens has to be the original 35mm Elmar, if you put a bayonet adaptor on it.

That's just absolutely crazy ...

Perhaps a rare lens is better than gold as an investment. With a lens one can take pictures, pictures taken with a x-thousand Euros lens attract attention, of course. But who dares to take such a device out of the house.

This is a great discussion! I enjoy hiking, snowshoeing and travelling (ha!) and have always travelled light so compact lenses are kind of my thing.

Some of the small lenses I've used are (all M or LTM): MS Optical 28/2, Minolta 40/2, Leica 35/1.4 pre-asph, Leica 35/2 v3, Voigtlander 15/4.5 III, Voigtlander 21/4 and Voigtlander 40/1.4, Leica 50/2.8 elmar-M, Kobalux 28/3.5

One lens that I'm keen on right now seems to be even smaller: MS Optics 24/2 but it's hard to find many user reviews about it.  Anyone who has a long term user opinion on this - please feel free to chime in.

Another suggestion I have is the Konica 21-35mm Dual Hexanon - it covers 2 primes 21mm and 35mm in one lens. It's not super compact but it weighs 350g - hard to get a 21mm and 35mm combo for that weight - plus it has the big advantage of not needing to change lenses in the field.

I also love this lens.  Bought it used years ago, sold it some time later, and repurchased it used a bit ago.  It's not a lens I use regularly, but it is an incredible travel lens due to its compactness.

Based on Voigtlander activity in last two years I will not be surprised to see new 28 1.4 Nokton and 90/2 ultron in near future...

If they will release 90 Ultron I think it will be cheap, sharp and reasonable small.
