Belarus was one of only 5 countries in the world that as of a couple of weeks ago still had an up and running football league - together with Taiwan, Nicaragua, Burundi and Tajikistan - so go figure .. :)

Some of these images are absolutely stunning in how the lens has drawn the picture. This thread has me suspiciously eyeing my 90mm Elmarit-M/Pentax 645 kit, scratching my chin and releasing an audible "hmmm...."

My partner and her mother, Inge.

Inge fled Vienna in 1938, following the Anschluss.  She was 4.  She and her parents went to Czechoslovakia to get a new passport and convert to Lutheranism, then she took a train to Berlin, and flew to London in 1939, where they were accepted as refugees.  Her father then flew back to Vienna, and brought his sister-in-law out on his wife’s passport.  Fighting in the Czech regiment in WW2 ruined him.

The rest of Inge’s family perished - her grandfather beaten to death by the Nazis; her grandmother drowned in Haifa harbour, when the boat was sunk; the rest (apart from Some cousins already here) were murdered in the death camps.

NZ welcomed them in the 1950s.  Her message - now is not the time for complacency.  Be an upstander, not a bystander.

Thank you for sharing this story. It is imperative that this history not be forgotten as survivors become older. And, kudos to NZ for accepting refugees. Rob
