I suspect that the length plays a part in making it handle/balance completely differently to the Noc.

When I was handling my 75 Lux, I held the lens more than I held the camera. This led to a very stable and good grip, which came in very handy.

I just couldn't resist and bought the lens a few days ago. Here are some impressions...

I really like this photo. Not only for the beautiful capture (I love how the flying bird is on the focal plane) and rendering of the 75:1.4 Lux ... but also the story. As such is one of the most memorable forum photos for me. Well done!

I am a bit late responding, a 'like' acknowledgement does not suffice. Thanks for your comments. I am pleased with the image too.

It was a simple set-up. I wanted to shoot the image wide open using the Summilux-M 75mm so that right away limits my options. I positioned myself perpendicular to my wife, the bag and anticipated flight path of the bird.  I also had her move around a little bit so that the background would not be too distracting. I focused on the bag and when ready, told her to open it up and allow the bird to fly out. Those little birds are out of the bag and away within a blink of the eye! They are fast! Thankfully we released several birds that day and I managed to capture a few shots with a bird in the frame. This photo works for me mainly because she is looking at the bird as it flies away and of course, the bird is positioned perfectly in the frame.

Thanks for the explanation and reply. Yes, and I like how the bird is positioned on the less busy background so stands outside nicely.

A beautiful capture and I assume quite fortunate, since the flight path of the bird could not be known.  Thanks again for posting the image, and for the explanation 👍

What an absolutely wonderful thread! I have just looked through it all and two things stand out:

  • More than any other lens-specific thread I get a feel for what the lens does.
  • More than any other such thread there seem to be a much higher proportion of lovely atmospheric, characterful and technically excellent available-light portraits.

I have had this lens for a couple of months but I have not had the time to get used to it. I must go out with it tomorrow - with the SL2-S and a M4 with Portra 800. I'll see if I can find some people in town, but otherwise I have some portrait opportunities in the next few weeks and I must use this instead of my more usual Summilux-SL 90.

Took the lens today with the SL2-S to the Fitzwilliam Museum, to shoot portraits and street photography.

Total stranger, seen at the theatre, apparently very pleased to have her photo taken.

SL2-S, Summilux-M 75. ISO 640, No sharpening, no noise reduction
