I too was at Leica Store Bellevue, and picked up one of the cameras that they had set aside for me.
They are expecting several more bodies and some kits to arrive Monday 25 Nov.

Most everyone I talked to during the demo / photo walk was very impressed with the SL2, and a good percentage of them felt they would go on to purchase one.

Chuck, sorry I didn't figure out who you were!

I'm sure we'll meet again. I usually turn up for those visits by Ebbi and Ray; Ebbi has been with Leica forever, and Ray is a font on knowledge on photography in general and the SL/SL2 in particular. I usually learn something new about the camera every time I talk to him. Ebbi said they'd be back for a holiday sale at Glazer's in mid-December. Have fun with your SL2!

The Official Leica Stores get far more stock than the authorised dealers .... I would keep an eye on the German/French/Dutch Leica stores online ..... these days (unlike in the past) they will actually state if in stock and you can buy direct (Brexit permitting) usually with next day UPS delivery. They will have exhausted their 'waiting lists' well before the rest of the world. I know it often pays to have a regular local dealer to patronise, but if you want something quicker you will have to play the 'Leica Game' when it comes to finding scarce items.

Does leica accept tradeins? I’m sending in my SL which is the only reason I’m going with the dealer.

You have every reason to look forward to it.  The combo feels solid and compact and is a lot of fun to shoot.  The IQ is superb.  You can take it out in any kind of weather.  No birthday wishes ahead of time but well done.

It arrived today!

I'm going to shoot a bit this afternoon to try it out.

Bud James

No idea. I've only ever traded in with Leica Mayfair direct when they have had specific promotions ...... and the trade in ..... like with cars, is always depressingly low. Even after their cut you would probably get no less (and probably more) via eBay if your SL is in good cosmetic condition. My SL went a few weeks ago and is spending its retirement in northern Italy. My Paypal account is primed and ready for action.

I suppose trading in on the day does lessen the shock to the wallet and preserves domestic harmony by obscuring the true cost of your profligacy ..... so maybe waiting is not all bad ......

I picked SL2 from Leica store today, after being on waiting list for 2 weeks;Gentleman asked me if I wanted to get any lens with it,I said yes, please, He ran behind counter and said I am sorry we do not have that 35mm Kit available but other are available( reserved/not announced), if you wish you can decline it and wait for kit to arrive; so dilemma was get the SL2 now and be happy or wait for kit and save 1000 Dollars( tariff); I already have 24-90, 50 and 90 Sl lenses.

SL2 instantaneous gratification and happiness vs uncertainty Anxiety/stress saving of $1000 and spending extra .

I'm number 15 on the list at Reddot in the UK. Probably won't have a camera until next year sometime. Good job Leica.

I am with London Camera Exchange only because they are giving a good price for a part exchange for my unused S1R.  Reddot were one of the dealers who said that they are expecting one a month.  Also, LCE told me that they had contacted Leica UK who had informed them that the demand is so high that they can’t fulfil orders even for Leica’s own boutiques by a large margin let alone for authorised dealers.  I have set my expectations for mid 2020.

Good like with yours.  Hope you get it soon.

Yes they do, but only for certain Leica cameras and not any other brands.  At least here in London.  You can also sell your camera with no price penalty compared to a trade in and they offer excellent prices.  I sold my SL to Leica Mayfair - totally  regrettable - and bought an S1R.  Now I am having to sell my pretty much unused S1R at a massive loss for the SL2.

Personally, I would keep the S1R ...... from my reading of the reviews the SL2  does nothing significantly better than the S1R and in some ways the functionality is better, particularly for landscape use. I intend to keep both, and one, yet to be determined will be a second body carried instead of my CL on ‘serious’ outings. I’ll be interested to see how others who actually own and use both cameras decide which is best and why ...... whilst I have a tendency to prefer Leica, a red dot isn’t everything ....

You may need now one of them 8-core processor, 32 GB RAM, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory, 16 inch almost 4K retina display laptops.  I forgot to mention, the files are huge and it takes LR forever to output an SL2 JPEG. 😁

My Surface Pro has no issues with S1R and X1D files.

I imagine that Leica will be trying to sell as many as possible to the Americans, at the expense of the rest of the world, before the latter put on 25% tariffs.

Per my dealer, apparently Leica had done a lot of extra work on this roll out to make it smoother than the Q2 as they expected heavy demand.  All of the effort, however, was thwarted by the tariffs. The word I received was that there are cameras in NJ, but now they are trying to put together kit bundles to lessen the impact. I missed out on the first shipment, by 1. Top of the list for the next one, which they are hoping to have in by Wednesday.

Don't look now, but the price of the 35mm, for example, is now $5795 at B&H!  Word to my fellow US M shooters planning on picking up their first SL. Order your M-adapter-L now, there's likely to a run on them until all these stupid tariffs go away.

The SL2 is not impacted by any new Tarrifs

If that was directed at my post, you missed the point. Yes, the camera is not subject to the tax, however all lens sales for it are.  To mitigate the chaos and lost sales from that optical side of the house, Leica US, which I was told only knew about the specifics of the tariff about a week before the details were announced, was forced to scramble to create kits, as when the lens is sold in a kit with a camera body, is no longer subject to tariff. Hence, bodies that would have been released for sale have been held back so that they can be purchased with tariff-free lenses.
