Helge- I'm also trying to work out why.  IBIS is good for photographing static subjects at lower shutter speeds, correct?

The Moon's not static, it orbits the Earth at a speed of 3,683 kilometers per hour or 61.38 kms per minute = 1.023 km/sec.  At the same time the earth's also moving.  This may explain the movement that the camera's picking up, and IBIS being useless in this situation.  Just a thought....

might be worth trying with the electronic shutter instead (if you weren't already using it)

I recall I had similar issues with the S1R when I tried longish lenses at shutter speeds in the 1/125 - 1/400 range......  and things were much better without the mechanical shutter.

I'm fairly certain that was with IBIS on as well as the lenses had no OIS.

Any explaination or idea for the blur with IBIS? I have some examples of the same  behaviour with the 90-280, but I have not set aside time to explore possible reasons. Just curious...

+1. Same strange experience happened (only occasionally) when I’m taking BIF.

It seems logical that IBIS wouldn’t always be satisfactory at fast shutter speeds. It must go slightly off target when the sensor movement has to change direction. During the time this lasts the sensor will record a larger proportion of the image than at a slower shutter speed.

BW might be another idea.

Thank you for the comments.

I did a BW version as well and shared one I personally feel slightly more special given the simple color tone. Here is the BW version.
