Thanks Helge, your synchronisation explanation makes sense. I've always suspected that there's something like this going on, as I've had no blurring issues with the LEICA VE 90-280mm L mounted on the SL2.

When I had the S1R I had noticed a similar slight blur in images whenever I had the LEICA VE 90-280mm L mounted, as is now the case with the Sigma 100-400mm L on the SL2.  I've noticed enough of a pattern of slightly blurred images when using a non-Leica L mount lens on the SL2  that I now turn off either the IBIS or OIS. I'll run a few test images to determine which one of the two should be turned off in order to achieve best results. However based on what you say about the sensor shifts being smaller, it would probably make sense to turn the camera's IBIS off & leave the lens' OIS on.

I recall a shooting event some time back using SR1+Sigma 14mm f1.7. I got  LOTS of slightly blurred images. I guess this was because of IBIS, or possibly something with the shooter himselves 😉.  Anyway, a good rule of thumb is to check images on the rear screen at high magnification. Once you have seen sharp vs blurred images on the screen at magnification, one can quickly identify that something is going on, and that stabilisation should be (un)checked...

I couldn't resist.....  SL2 & Sigma 100-400mm L   @ 400mm hand held @ 1/20s

I'm finding that with lenses which have an OIS On/Off switch I'm getting much better results if the OIS switch is set to Off & rather use only the camera's IBIS.

I wonder if the Lens' OIS & the Camera's IBIS are somehow cancelling each other out or working against each other?

I couldn't resist (the cat) either.  Our cat, Tai, has just as mixed-up a coat, even to the point of having black whiskers on one side and white whiskers on the other. I'd ;love to see some more pictures of yours, to see how her patches work out.  I'm told this is called a "calico" cat, and our vet tells me that it only happens with females, since the gene that controls it is on an X chromosome.

I have no inside information, but from the oroblems that have cropped up it seems that the information that passes among the L-mount consortium members is rather limited.  It doesn't seem that we get IBIS and OIS working together unless the camera and lens are from the same manufacturer.  And Leica seems to have not given tight enough electrical specs to the L-mount, so that some of the Lumix lenses cause voltage droops in an SL host that trigger low power warnings and halt multi-shot operations.

That's correct Scott, she is a "Calico" & this colouration only happens with females, about 99.5%, on the rare occasion that you have a male Calico they're sterile. Calicos aren't a separate breed, the name refers to their tri-colouration. Despite this, they seem to share some common traits, they're known to be independent & to be less sociable with other cats, preferring to be on their own. She's got another 5 cats to contend with in our home.... Here's another pic of her.

Re IBIS & OIS, agree, they only seems to work together when both lens & camera are from the same manufacturer. It's the synchronisation that Helge's referred to in his post above.

Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90 f/2.8-4 ASPH

(anyone else finding latest version of Capture One Desaturating on Export to JPEG?  I have become used to Darkening but Desaturating is a new one for me).

Anyway, the sun finally broke through for a minute or so.

These are excellent, dramatic, 3-D and, importantly, without burned out highlights. Bravo!!

Thank you very much!

Just telling the story behind the pics:
When i saw the developing of the colors before sunrise (family was sleeping) i jumped into my trousers and barfooted into my boots - got my cam and my outdoor jacket (stormy wind  at about 80 km/h) and drove about two kilometers with my car- having a spectacular natural lightshow.
Garden lights that morning (an the reason why to hurry up):

Truly amazing shots as Helged mentioned. Interesting to learn what was happening behind the scenes (particularly the 80 km/h winds).

Personally I like images that look natural. Sometimes mother nature delivers such a vidid color display that I find that the challenge in post becomes one of toning things down a bit without eliminating the drama that was part of the attraction in the first place.

You definitely hit the sweet spot in those two images.

No experience with the first version of thus lens. But v2 is also very sharp, and with - in general - amazing IS. Still, image blur happens, now and then, so multiple shots are adviceable. IS may also depend on electronic vs mechanical shutter (with the former better than the latter), and the actual shutter speed.
