Is the m-e  an m type 240 but grey and cheaper?

The colour is a clever marketing ploy i believe.

As far as I can see the new M-E is a starter level M with loads of good features. It should take great photos. I see no downside.

Yes of course but the "grey" makes it different and more marketable than just suddenly putting the type 240 back in production with a new lower price in my view.

So you dont think there was any thought process from leica regarding the grey colour?

Just a random thing.

Ps i know they have used grey before.

It's the Lens and workings of the camera that are important, what the h*ck does the color matter - If I didn't have my Safari I would jump at the M-E (Type240)

I never said it mattered.

I said it was a marketing ploy.

Leica is the only company..that can coat a 7 year old camera in grey paint..take some stuff off it..dont add any updates..and then sell it for 4K..and everyone says..man..thats a great deal..lol..

Maybe proof that Leica's approach to camera design is pretty solid?

Definitely proof of something...exactly what..who really knows..

But..

I may actually get one..

As its such a great deal..!

And my M lenses are lonely..and dislike their Panny and Sony bodies..

But didnt you give up your M240 for a CL..and never looked back..

Maybe thats the best decision..

Over the years I  had the Big Nikons, a few Canon's, the yearning for an M is never quenched until you actually own an M. The M3 was my first and I plodded on, then the M6..  The digital M's are another beast, the X1 quenched a little, then the XVario quenched a little more, but all the time I knew I would eventually get a digital M.. Then the M-P240 Safari Set came out.. That's it..  No regrets.. As they say, 'pull the trigger' and enjoy.. On ordering the Set, I sent my wife away with her Mom for a weekend of wine & good food) it arrived o/night, I unpacked it with reverence and awe, once set up I took it out, when I saw the images on my 27"iMac, I was absolutely sold.. My wife commented on my new Desktop..Sold all round..L

Reading this brings back memories of each new gear that was delivered. Every time a new gear arrives I tend to need alone time. =)

If a person was to buy the leica m-e type 240 would he/she be able to turn off video and live view?

When i say turn off i mean turn it off in such a way that it would only be active again by deliberately turning either feature back on.

You can turn both buttons off. It stops the ‘M’ button next to the shutter button working. The LV button would be much harder to hit accidentally IMO but that can be disabled too.

Disabling "M" button !

This feature was not on the plain M(typ 240) or M(246) that I use.

Maybe it is there but I have not found how to set this feature.

Could you share the process, please.

I would assume they had the same firmware but I’m on an M-E 240, fresh out the box, fw v 2.0.4.0

Set -> Video Recording -> Off

’M’ button is now deactivated
