ramarren Posted August 4, 2019 Author Share #61 Posted August 4, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some nice work with the 10mm on the Sony! I've been off on another tangent for a week or two, shooting 6x6 film with my Voigtländer Perkeo II, but I'm swapping back to the CL now ... and maybe shoot some film with the 10mm using the Leica M4-2 as well just to play with the extreme FoV. My widest viewfinder is Voigtländer 21/25 mm so framing will be a bit chancy, but it'll be fun.

I've only had time for a couple of afternoons out with the combo so still working out how to handle that UW FoV. Corner stretching is awful, as you said, but it is what it is and there is no point moaning. Here's a link to Dropbox and 17 images if you want to see https://www.dropbox.com/sh/66722v0q3q4b7nq/AAD0KAfssHYVW6pUvUe9whLTa?dl=0 They are all full size JPGs so you'll be able to see the dimensions of individual shots. Some cropped more than others for composition of the final image but none is excessively cropped. There's nothing Leica in sight so I wont be posting any of them here. 😁 The A7 certainly wont be replacing my CL which I love and appreciate even more now. I think there are some amazing images in that collection Dippy, I was impressed by all of them, though image number 259 and 281 really stood out for me. I parted company with my A73, it was just one camera too many! No complaints from me about handling though, and certainly not about image quality. Wouldn't matter what camera, I think you really have the eye for wide angle Dippy, so post the images somewhere please!

Thanks Jayne, I'm glad you enjoyed them but honestly think I have some way to go before they are amazing. but you made good choices with your 2 selections 😉 There's nothing really wrong with the A7r ii except I find it a bit big and am forever pressing the buttons on the back when I shouldn't be. I didn't know that you could have too many cameras but I guess it's possible in a theoretical kind of way......🤨

ramarren Posted October 25, 2019 Author Share #66 Posted October 25, 2019 I took a nice cycle ride on Wednesday... Hopped the train with the Fatboy Comp Carbon here in Santa Clara and exitted in Redwood City. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I met a friend there for lunch. Afterwards, I let Google Maps guide me back down the Peninsula towards Mountain View. I had it set to cycling and it took me through a marvelously twisty and fun route that I'd never have dreamed up myself. I stopped several times to make a photo when the light and the scene moved me. First, at the edge of Menlo Park and Palo Alto, there was this giraffe: After that, I crossed over the US 101 highway complex at the Arastradero maze using the very long pedestrian bridge there and headed out on the Bay Trail. It was a lovely day out and the trail was completely empty when I was there, the first time that's happened on the rides I've taken there. This trail goes way out onto the edge of SF Bay, and can take you onto dirt around east of Moffet Field, but I didn't want to go that way. Hopping back over US 101 via another pedestrian bridge, and then wiggling through one neighborhood after another, I found myself right back at one of my favorite cafe's in downtown Mountain View, Dana Street Roasting Company. These chairs begged to be photographed, the light was stunning in rich contrasts. From there to home is a (mostly boring) pretty straight shot down Evelyn and onto Monroe, about 8 miles or so long. I didn't stop again to make any photos in that section, I just pounded pedals and flew as it is slightly downhill most of the way… All told, it was 27 miles on that run at 11.8 mph average speed. I pummeled down 1400 calories of pedaling... It was great! All photos with the Leica CL fitted with Voigtländer 10mm f/5.6 lens ... of course. enjoy! They might be useful offroad but are surely not optimal on tarmac. Set up for off-road use, it's best on snow and sand. Neither of which appeals to me much, a 2.5" MTB would be better for dirt and trails that if I wanted to do that. I set it up for the road because that's where it really works beautifully for me. They're road-oriented semi-slick tires inflated to 26 psi: you ride most of the time on the almost smooth center stripe that's a little under 2" wide. The rolling resistance is indeed a bit higher than a typical road bike setup (not a roadie racer) but the difference isn't as large as you might imagine from looking at them. Spinning up takes a bit more energy, cruising is almost the same. What they give you is amazing ride comfort, excellent steering precision, insensitivity to a lot of pavement irregularities and crud (you just roll right over it, it never twists the wheel), and superb cornering/braking grip. The bike has a lot of carbon and weighs in at 28.2 lbs as you see it. I ride it 15-25 miles every day, almost entirely on paved roads, and cruise comfortably at 15 to 18 mph most of the time. (The 11.8 mph average for the run includes stopping for stop signs, traffic lights, and traffic conditions.) I've done 45-50 mile days easily. Remember: I'm 65 and long past the notions of racing every other Lycra clad boy or girl on a bike ... I like this bike so much I've disposed of all my other bikes, other than the Brompton folder. Like a Leica M, CL, or SL, despite what many see as their shortcomings, it just suits me well and works brilliantly. G
Viv Posted October 25, 2019 Share #69 Posted October 25, 2019 Understood. You seem to have it properly sorted. I ride a Moulton AM 20-2. Spaceframe, 17 inch wheels, 1.25 inch slick tyres, full suspension. Weighs 25 pounds. https://www.britishbicycle.com/moulton-am-20-2/ A niche product, to be sure. Just like a rangefinder camera. ramarren Posted October 26, 2019 Author Share #70 Posted October 26, 2019 Ah, Moultons are lovely (and pricey) little machines! I looked at one when I was looking for a compact bike but they're hard to find in the USA and fair pricey (as if the Bromptons aren't!). The Brompton appealed to me and is a giggle to ride. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! My Specialized Fatboy Comp Carbon is nicely sorted out: When I got it, I changed the tires to these and rode it for two weeks to get a baseline. Then, revised/upgraded the drive system to Shimano XT 1x11 with a cassette and a larger front chain ring that essentially added one taller gear to the original 1x10 gearing. The original brakes are upgraded to TRP Slate4 ... it has outstanding braking now! ... and it's fitted with my preferred Garda gel seat and much better grips... And so forth. It is extremely well tuned to my riding. The only second-class components on the bike are the hubs; they're okay but the rear goes through bearings and the freehub isn't all that great. Next Spring I'll build up a wheel set with premium hubs and carbon rims, save another pound or two off the total weight, and eliminate the bearing problem. It will spin up faster that way, roll easier, and go much longer between hub rebuilds. I just found the carbon rims I'm going to use last week, they're on the way to me now... I love being on two wheels...
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Einst_Stein Posted April 7, 2020 Share #73 Posted April 7, 2020 HB SWC Biogon has very little distortion. That makes its super wide angle looks like a super wide “Normal” lens. Voigtlander has much severe distortion that is nowhere like SWC for my personal taste. Look at the pictures in this thread, such as Ramerren posted on 2019.06.19, look at the candle in the Lowe corner. Zeiss ZM 21mm Biogon is also not up to SWC. The closest I know of is Laowa 12mm and 15mm zero distortion super wide angle lens. But it just feels differently from the HB SWC. HB SWC is not only superb optically, but also has the perfect handling on hand. If you are looking for a Digital SWC but do not want SWC with digital back, the best bet according to my direct experienced and personal taste, is Leica M with Laowa zero distortion. ramarren Posted April 8, 2020 Author Share #74 Posted April 8, 2020 Can't say as I disagree with you. There is no expectation on my part that the V10mm can be the same as the SWC... but then I don't think it's really possible for any other camera to be exactly the same. To me, it's a matter of what can produce satisfying photos with a similar feel. If you want an SWC, there really isn't any choice but to buy one and enjoy it. Nothing else is ever going to do just exactly that, not even the 907x+ XCD21 I'm currently using. But other choices can make some very satisfying photos too. omega1848 Posted April 15, 2020 Share #77 Posted April 15, 2020 Question about the capture settings at the camera: I was trying to find the information within the T/ TL/ TL2 or CL manual (PDF) but didn't find it in any of them: Is it possible to set the aspect ratio for taking pictures within the camera? In other words to change it from 3:2 to 16:9 or 1:1? And more important to have the live view and preview of the capturing images at the changed aspect ratio? I couldn't find anything about it, all the pixel by pixel numbers mentioned in the manuals are always relate to the classic 3:2 aspect ratio.

I couldn't find anything about it, all the pixel by pixel numbers mentioned in the manuals are always relate to the classic 3:2 aspect ratio. The CL does not support alternative format proportions in-camera. What I've found is that it's pretty easy to visualize the square format with a little practice: you can use the grid setting that divides the screen in thirds, then you know that two horizontal segments by three vertical segments is a square, so frame and then shift to the center. After a few exercises like that, you'll visualize the square without needing the grid. G

Marac Posted June 17, 2020 Share #80 Posted June 17, 2020 I just ordered this lens today from Ivor I pulled my CL from eBay and decided not to sell it I will also be using it on the S1r I sold my 11-23, it was a great lens but not FF, I can go crazy wide with the 10mm on FF or go SWC wide on the CL. Excited.
