I had a M240 and M lenses, and my system evolved with the addition of a CL and SL and L lenses. Eventually I was finding the M240 was squeezed out of my usage: the SL for events, portraits etc, and the CL for travel, leisure and social. I found the CL to be as good a performer (usability and IQ) as the M240 for similar scenarios, and it was smaller, lighter and more discreet. I sold the M240 and all except one lens, and have no regrets.

I may end up selling the  M 240, too despite the results. It is no camera for every situation, macro and long focal lengths are practically excluded. I will stay with APS-C for practical reasons, maybe upgrade with the newer model. The SL2-S is tempting, but the EVF may not be suited for my eyes - my + 1.75 should result in + 2.25 (the EVF has a native - 0,5)  only available with the CL and the Q.It is the same with Canon. So what. There is nothing to photograph in lockdown anyway.

Just to go back to the topic.
My new favourite lens for CL is...
Vario-Elmar-TL 18-56mm.
I decided to give it a better chance to shine than a two weeks time trial.

Yes it is slow  f/3,5-5,6 will not win any award in low light.
But it is light and very small.
IQ is excellent to very good.
The covered range is very useful. More so than my Q2 crop limited to 28-35-50-75mm only. At 85mm equivalent the Vario-Elmar-TL is way better than Q2 at 75mm.

It is not a low light lens. And so what ? CL is an interchangeable lens body.
I tried to use Q2 as a strand standard zoom. It failed miserably.
Q2 is not a zoom. Far from it. It is only a 28+35mm dual lens combo. 50+75mm are gimmicky : low res and too tiny framelines.
So today I am using the real deal : a proper multipurpose zoom. I even add ELPRO 52 to get macro back.

Looking at how much I am using 28mm and 85mm equivalent positions. TL 18-56mm is the right call. Q2 were too short and too awkward at 75mm.

Doing some research on lens’s and thought I’d give my 2 favorites right now. Leica 55-135 TL and the Sigma 105. Both have been super useful. The APO lens in particular renders colors (colours) beautifully. Photo is the 55-135 TL

One by one I acquired most of the TL lenses and one Sigma 16mm for night sky work, among other things.  All of the TL lenses were either new or nearly new, and the prices were too good to pass up.  I thought having five lenses would be too many, but they all have their place for different situations.  I think I would regret selling any of them.

My favorite is probably the 23mm f/2 Summicron.  The size is nice and the lens is fast enough.  In normal light I don't see much difference in image quality versus the zoom.  As a practical matter, the 18-56mm gets used the most because of its range of focal lengths and the image quality is excellent.  I see some reviews that give it a bad rap, but I don't see why.  I've had nothing but positive experiences with it.

hi,

like you, for me, is the 18-56 mm the best lens for that system.

I used it a lot with the CL.

But for the T 701 is the 23mm the one I love to use.

the F/2 offers a great versatility and a much better bokeh.

I had the 18mm but did not convince me in term of IQ.

Will it be a problem? Having more lenses to play with is always better for everybody.
It would be nice to have the luxury to ever complained about another missing TL lens.
But in 2021 ? Only 7 lenses in total. And no new lens since the CL released in 2017 ! Crazy.
Hopefully Sigma save the system with 3 great DC DNs.

So let us asking loudly for many more TL lenses. If you ask for nothing. You will get nothing in return. That’s sure.

But I am pretty sure that Leica has a surprise for us this year. Weather-sealed CL2 is confirmed. It may come with a brand new lens. Or a whole redesign of current TL lenses : better IQ and ingress protection.

Anything new here?  Is it still "confirmed" a new CL2 - such "unofficial" ? ☺️.
I hope for a little more information from Leica soon.  I would like (also) to bet on the CL series, if Leica will.  "Missing" only SL but thinks it is too big.

After allready iwning the TL 11-23 and TL 55-135 I recently purchased the Voigtländer APO 35mm f2.0 VM, tigether with the Leica M to L adapter. This lens is absolutely terrific. Really nice colors, excellent sharpness, no abberations. Highly recommended.

For the most part I have been using  M lenses on my CL.  I enjoy manual focus plus the are usually small which makes them more appealing to me.  Lately I have been favoring my Voigtlander 75 f 1.5 and the Voigtlander 21mm f 3.5 .  The 21 is my newest to me so that is my current fave!

CL..21 VM f3.5

I dunno about that. I've made about 16,000 photographs since March 15, 2020 (when lockdown began around here), and posted several hundred of them. ??

Regardless, I would have to say that in terms of what I actually use the most, the Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm f/2.8 is the leader but a lot of that is because I shoot a lot of film and use that lens for a lot of my digitization. Discounting that use, the 1972 Summilux 35mm f/1.4 in M-mount is my most often used lens, nudging out the 1979 Summilux-R 50mm f/1.4 by a small margin. In recent months, the teensy MS Optics 24mm f/2 shows a huge percentage of my use, and the Voigtländer HyperWide 10mm f/5.6 Aspheric has been a high hitter since I got it a year and some back.

I sold my SL series lenses when I sold the SL kit in 2018, shortly before I bought the CL, and I sold my digital M bodies (M-P240 and M-D 262) shortly after the CL proved itself to be as good in use for me, and more versatile.

That said, this year I've shot more Polaroid, 35mm, and 120 format film than I've shot digital exposures, other than scanning.
