Given the high quality of your landscape work (mostly tripod-based, I think) using that camera, that will tell me a lot about the S3 IQ.... both b/w and color. Jeff I do use a tripod most of the time; there are situations when I cannot, such as high winds or places where they are forbidden. In those cases my elbows become my support facility, along with a 2-second shutter delay. With respect to the S3, I can answer that after it is released. erlingmm Posted April 26, 2019 Share #105 Posted April 26, 2019 There seems to be a public launch of the S3 at the PhotoMarket Exhibition, Fotografiska, Stockholm today. No news about delivery so far.
albireo_double Posted April 26, 2019 Share #106 Posted April 26, 2019 Hmm, I heard today, from a credible source who has been informed about another delay (beyond July), reasons unspecified. Wish you were right with the Stockholm info.
Stuart Richardson Posted April 26, 2019 Share #107 Posted April 26, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I talked to a seller who said they had no information, but they thought it would not be ready until the end of the year. That was their fear. I got the sense that that was based on not hearing anything from Leica etc about timelines or its status etc.
Jeff S Posted April 26, 2019 Share #108 Posted April 26, 2019 If so, strange to take more than 4 years to essentially add a higher res sensor with new color array. Maybe there’s more going on. Or maybe it’s just not a high priority. Not a big deal for me, but it would delay possible attempt to find a super bargain S007 once the S3 is released. Joakim Posted April 26, 2019 Share #109 Posted April 26, 2019 (edited) They are showing “the coming” S3 today in Stockholm as mentioned earlier but it is not a launch, according to my Leica dealers Facebook page. Jeff New color array? Maybe that collaboration with HuaWei work out with the new RYYB layout. More light going through, less accurate, but 'enhance-able' in an AI algorithm just like the phone. Stuart Richardson Posted May 16, 2019 Share #115 Posted May 16, 2019 For general availability, or announcement? I know it has been announced, but given that it will be a year later, will they re-announce it?

It is of course announced, and in the Nordics Leica representatives show it in stores and exhibitions on selected events already. I guess they struggle with sensor production or optimisation, maybe even AF after all the complaints on the forum.

albireo_double Posted May 17, 2019 Share #120 Posted May 17, 2019 The design is ugly but the images will be superb and it will focus fast... there is no avoiding that truth. Not a camera for the retired gentleman...but for studio use, it ticks all boxes, including flawless tethering in Capture One and full TTL/HSS support by Profoto, Elinchrom. At the announced price, there is little not to like about the Fuji. I have sold the GFX and I am waiting patiently for the S3 (with proper tethering...). I was told availability "towards year-end". If the price / upgrade deal is not right, they don't fix the tethering before launch or there are any other quirks, I will skip and look at other possibilities. None of these MFD cameras is a "sexy beast", with the exception of the X1D which however has its own set of issues.
