Initially, I considered the M10-D, but it seemed too similar to what I'm already doing with my current M10-R BP + custom half case, as it offers the same menu options (through FOTOS) and EVF. Wanting to replicate the feel of my film MP more closely, I opted to try out the M-D for its excellent battery life, non-existent menu and shooting experience. I also needed a backup body. :)

From what you have said regarding your recent shooting practices you should find the basic simplicity of the M-D Typ-262 to be the perfect match for the Film MP. In use they really do require exactly the same methodology.

I wish you Happy Shooting once it arrives!

Philip.

doesn't the shutter speed dial turn the opposite direction?

Thank you, Philip! I should receive it by the end of the week and already have the latest firmware (1.1.0.0) ready to install if needed.

Yes, the M-D, like many other digital Leica M bodies, has the shutter speed dial turning in the opposite direction compared to the Leica MP. I'm already accustomed to this from shooting with the M10-R. :)

Of course, good point. If you’re used to it good. It confuses me sometimes when I switch, end up having to deliberately look at the dial on my M-A.

FWIW, the M-D was probably my favorite of the digital bodies to hold, loved the absolute simplicity. Hope you enjoy yours.

Great thread! Just purchased an M-D and should receive it in a few days. I'm incredibly excited about it!

The MD Fred is an excellent choice, saying that even though I opted for the M10-D instead for the slightly better VF but primarily for the thinner body size, yes ridiculous I know but using both an MP and the MD "loaner" at the time the difference was noticeable to me and a little annoying and thus the M10-D became the choice to go with............I think to that the extras that the M10-D offered over the MD's simplicity were unnecessary and over complicated, muddying the intended experience of the camera though once the M10-D was set-up I ignored all settings and especially Fotos which I disliked from day one, and anyway later dumped my iPhone / smart 'phone use too so that nixed that facility. Battery life with the MD surely will be longer than the M10-D, though really I have never had a problem with that. I leave the M10-D switched on with 2 minutes sleep set all the time, never turning it off and still got more than a day's use out of it...........but then my regular day of shooting would rarely harvest more than 30 shots.

Having said all that, and having said quite a few times that the M10-D is my personal favourite digital M that I have owned to date I have decided to sell the camera and hopefully the €€€ harvested will enable a purchase of a film processor, we'll see how that goes.

Yes; and the M-D Typ-262 has neither a wind-on lever nor a film-rewind knob but even so; I trust Fred will be able to work out exactly what he needs to do for himself?......😸......

Out of curiosity, gotium, when you write "was" does that signify you no longer have the camera? If so - and if you liked it so much - why did it go? A return to Film-Shooting, perhaps?

Genuinely curious to know. Thanks in advance!

Philip.

I agree that the M10-D is another great option for those of us who desire a shooting experience reminiscent of film. However, personally, I find that I often use my current M10-R BP as a pseudo M10-D, as it has a custom half case that completely blocks the screen. Due to this, I opted for the even more restrictive M-D model, also because I wanted a backup M body. If I require additional features such as an EVF or wireless transfer, I can always switch to the M10-R.

Oh, I upgraded to the M10, if I remember it was mostly because of high ISO performance. I also liked the thinner body and the shutter. But I didn't bond with it like I did with the M-D and I ended up with an M10-D, which I had and still have mixed feelings about. Not the same thing in terms of simplicity and with a collection of issues. So now I don't have a digital M body 😕

😇 maybe not afterall.

Sorry, I'll change my mind in few days ... or not.

By now, I thougt I'll take time waiting for Monochrom M10-D, but if it never come waiting time may be too long.

In that "maybe-long waiting time", the M-D (262) value may drop significantly because of "old model M-D", and the trade in value may not be as interesting.

I’m not convinced that this will happen anytime soon.

At the moment (and has been the case for a long time) no UK dealers have had any used M-D bodies. Reading the various threads I’m not sure lots of existing M-D owners are rushing to switch so I think the original may remain scarce and thus value will stay firm.

If one accepts the M-D sensor output as “good enough” (I do) then I can’t see a reason to ever upgrade  - unlike my “regular” Ms.......

Update: Received my M-D and I'm thrilled with it so far.

Question for those with M-D and Leica 50/2 APO. Does it recognizes its 6-bit code?

With all due respect to the M-D, the Edition 60 reigns supreme.  The first.  With the Steelilux.

With both, no need for M10-D, not M11-D, all those will be cheating with Bluetooth and wifi.  The battery lasts forever.  Vive le roi!
